I want everyone who eats at this restaurant to be aware of what we encountered a couple of nights ago. When we first walked in and sat down we noticed a large ant on our table. No big deal, right?! When we were about 3/4's of the way through our pizza, I see what I believe is a roach running across the carpet trying to get under another table. I grabbed a napkin and caught it. I took it to the counter and tried to be discreet about it as to not nauseate any other eaters in the restaurant.(Needless to say that I couldn't eat another bite.) I handed it over to the person behind the counter and described what happened and asked for the manager to come to our table to speak about it. She did come to talk about it and apologized saying that they had just sprayed for bugs earlier that day. The kicker is that while she was talking to us, a gnat flew into my pop right in front of her. She gave me a new pop, but did nothing else to off-set the nasty experience. Having been in the restaurant business while going to school, I know that it is manager's discretion as to any and all matters. I don't know what her name is, but having just admitted that they had a "bug" problem and had just sprayed for them earlier, she most certainly could have comp'd our meal. She SHOULD have done so. I loved going to CG Giovanni's, and liked the service and experience. I assure you that I WILL NEVER go there again! If you so dare, make sure you keep an eye out on those little critters that are watching you right back. Totally Disgusting and Disgusted!
I was there when this happened as well. The lady says she wanted to be discreet about the incident, but yet she gets on TOPIX to bash this business?? What is up with this? I overheard her conversation with an employee to which she stated she had once worked somewhere that they had also had a bug problem that came from their warehouse. She acted really understanding when it happened, as if it were no big deal. If this lady lives in the village of Coal Grove at all she would realize that the ant problem is in every house in Coal Grove. So I'm sure the ants love it that there is a restaurant in Coal Grove that they can infest. As for the roach, it was ONE roach crawling ON THE FLOOR...not on your table or near your food. And if it disgusted you so bad, then why would you "pick it up"?? And then I guess after you picked it up you went right back to eating with the hand you picked it up with? That does not sound like it disgusted you that bad. AND YES the Gnat....which is called a fruitfly...when it is warm fruitflys come into our homes and look for fruits and vegatables to swarm. Why don't you make a trip up to Pic-n-save, like I did the other night, and look at all of the fruitflys that are in the grocery store? Even if you go to your local grocer and buy groceries to take home and cook, you are still going to encounter these same bugs. Roaches can be carried home from the grocery store as well, as we all know, in your potatoes and packages. Joanne, CG Giovannis admitted to you that they had just had the store exterminated that day. If you have ever hired an exterminator what they do is come into your home and spray a chemical that runs the bugs out of hiding, then they spray the stuff to kill them. So I'm sure that is why they were in clear view the night you were in the restaraunt. At least they were taking care of the concern, not ignoring it so that it could get worse. Coal Grove Giovannis is a VERY clean establishment. So until you actually bite into a bug INSIDE of your food, which did not happen!!! Quit complaining....the freakin bug was on the floor for crying out loud!! There were NO bugs cooked INTO your food. As the food is kept VERY fresh and VERY clean.....you obviously are just looking for a reason to bash this store, full of hard working employees that make sure the quality of your food comes FIRST!!

You people must be morons to believe that I'm trying to bash a restaurant for the mere fun of it or free food. Go on in and ask them if I didn't go up to the counter with the roach in napkin and the gnat in the pop and the ants in the booth. I really thought that people had more common sense than what it appears you do.lol Have fun spending your cash for what you normally expect on a picnic in the park. As they say Google, truth is stranger than fiction. I didn't say that the pizza was bad. I stated that the bugs were bad. She told me that they truck'em in from the warehouse and that they had just sprayed for them that day. Enjoy the extra protein as John suggested. I didn't post this to debate whether I should have gotten free food. I posted it to let people know what a completely disgusting experience my family had. No need to bash ME, I'm just the messenger. Take the free food out of the equation if it helps you understand what happened to us. Think about a cockroach sandwich. Sound tasty to you? I'm not crazy to expect to go somewhere to eat and not have a multitude of insects bombarding me. You act as if I did something wrong. NOPE. The restaurant was crawling with insects. End of Story. If the manager is truthful, she'll verify what I'm saying, but then again that wouldn't be the best advertisement for her job would it?
OK,enough already, take your business elsewhere and shut the hell up.

The woman has every right to complain. Sounds like the manager on duty didn't handle the situation correctly.

Personally I think the manager did what she had to do and you blew it up by getting on here out of all things to do... Go figure this is Lawrence county Ohio for you always out to get someone a bad rap or name

Well.....I've eaten from the ironton and coal grove giovanni's as well as one in ashland, southpoint, and franklin furnace.....all places have some type of insect problem whether it be flies, roaches, gnats or spiders.....they are everywhere. Obviously, the original poster had a bad experience. It happens. Typically, I go to the Franklin Furnace Giovanni's because they've never messed up any order I've made and I've always had excellent service there. Just go somewhere else next time=)

Well I was n there when this happened and it wasn't even at ur table but u reached under the seat to pick it up... Come on u think wert place u go out to eat at is 100% bug free lady please... I know the manager came out after u talked t a delivery driver by the bathroom which is who told u that they sprayed... The manager did opologise to u for ur inconvenience and made sure it wasn't in or on ur food and replace ur drink... And she gave u a discount for ur trouble... Now how do u get that she didn't do her job bc u didn't get ur food for free???? It wasn't n ur food so what she did is what I would expect... And lady ur crazy to get on here and try to bash sumone over sumthing like this... Mayb we should take a good look at u bc in ur first post it sounded like all u were looking for is a Free Meal
I didn't get any free food, nor did I ask for free food. I did not go back to eating as usual as someone on this thread has alluded to either. Having a myriad of bugs attack you when you go somewhere to eat, other than at a picnic, is cause enough for someone to be concerned. The only people that were within earshot of my speaking to the people behind the counter or the manager were Giovanni's employees. The roach DID run from beneath our table to the table across the aisle from ours where I picked it up. I DID NOT eat any more pizza. I pushed it around after washing my hands and just couldn't eat. SICK is all I can say. I don't live in Coal Grove, and if all residents have these kinds of bug problems I'm thankful that I do not live there. This is some employee's ridiculous attempt to negate what happened to me. I maintained a low tone when speaking of this whole bug incident. I didn't ask for any free food then or now. I'm simply saying in light of the 3 seperate insect issues that it wouldn't have been inappropriate for the management to have done more than simply saying sorry. I did pay for the meal, and have been doing so regularly for a long time. After thinking back on the experience I believe that the management should have done something, anything more than what was done. I have worked in restaurants that have had issues, and I've worked in some that did NOT. In the cases in which a customer had a problem, my manager ALWAYS comped the meal and apologized to maintain a positive relationship with the diner. When the manager came to the table a gnat flew into my pop. I couldn't have provided more evidence if I tried. To the naysayers that want to defend the restaurant, go for it. I've already started spending my annual $1560 elsewhere. I just don't have the stomach for Coal Grove Giovanni's, or any Giovanni's for that matter. Sorry that they all get lumped together over this experience. Peace Out.

"I maintained a low tone when speaking of this whole bug incident" (actual meaning...I got on topix and let the whole world know about this whole bug incident) "I didn't ask for any free food then or now. I'm simply saying in light of the 3 seperate insect issues that it wouldn't have been inappropriate for the management to have done more than simply saying sorry." (What should the manager have done?? Got on her knees and pleaded for you to accept her apology? She gave you a discount on your food...and an apology) "my manager ALWAYS comped the meal and apologized to maintain a positive relationship with the diner." (so in all actuality you think that the manager should have gave you free food, this explains ALOT) "I've already started spending my annual $1560 elsewhere." (Did you REALLY go there?? So $1560 a year you spend eating out or you spend on pizza at Giovannis?? I know people who spend this much at Giovannis in a month or two...LOL) PEACE....sounds like it..
