From a post on the WSAZ web site: "The new federal plan will issue a text alert for weather warnings to every cell phone user who has text messaging capabilities. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SIGN UP, and it's free. The weather alerts will be geographically generated. That means if someone lives in Huntington but is visiting family in the Midwest when a tornado warning is issued there, he or she will receive that warning. ALL MAJOR CELL PHONE CARRIERS, including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, have signed on to the program."

Big brother NSA at work. If you have a cell phone they know WHO YOU ARE, WHERE YOU ARE at, and WHEN YOU ARE there. All packaged in the little phone everyone loves. Government forced manufacturers to imbed GPS and carriers to trunk all calls through VA. They also have the capability to listen in on your calls without a warrant, trap key words, and use your phone as a remote listening device even if it's off.

Think about it. Free? I don't think so it costs you your FREEDOM.

The northeast is getting lots of snow with blizzard conditions in many areas today. We are lucky that this huge winter storm is missing us! Cell phones will be very busy as some places may get between two and three feet of snow. It is called WINTER STORM NEMO. Many flights are cancelled and schools are closed in the New England areas. This will be a winter storm going down in the history books. The Hurricane Sandy areas may be hit hard again with power outages.

Where did you read that? I cannot find it on WSAZ website.

Found it on USA Today and YOU ARE WRONG!! The weather alerts issued by the government will only bounce off the nearest tower in that area. If you are in the area, you will automatically receive text alerts. It has NOTHING to do with who you are, or where you live. It states that if you are IN THE AREA, you will get a short text. GREAT IDEA! Especially considering that when travelling many people do not listen to local radio stations, but prefer to listen to c.d.s, ipods, etc.

You nut jobs will try and find anything to blame on our government. Take a bit of info and blow it into a conspiracy theory. The government is not out to get you, not yet anyways. But keep stirring up the uneducated masses with total nonsense and the government may have to step in to quell the uprising that people like you are starting.

Cant wait to read Al Bores press release, " this storm proves the devastating effects of global warming". The man should be doing the comedy clubs. Big time laughs !

I don't use cell's at all. I freed myself 4yrs ago from the debt and the constant ding-a-ling. It was hard, just like a drug addiction, it wants you to think that you can't live without it.

They have monitored phones and computors since 2001 but now with the NDAA bill they can listen and store conversations. They have even build a massive complex just for that reason. Your also right about having the ablity to ease-drop on everyone with a cell phone as long as the battery is installed and charged.

They can also elect to turn on your webcam without you knowing it if your on-line.

ECHELON, under construction for decades, is the foundation on which TIA is built. You have the better idea Raven, get rid of your cell - nothing but an electronic leash anyways. And if you cannot then at least turn it off and remove the SIM card if you are not using it.
