Point me in a direction. I want to help. Why doesn't the ironton shelter have fund raisers and donation drives like Huntington? How are we to know what's needed? We need a real group of organized animal lovers. Friends of Ironton sure raises a lot of money for giant flower pots. How about friends of ironton's abandoned and abused animals?

We are trying to get the word out there. Right now we have a monthly adoption day at petland in south point. It is on the first Saturday. We have recieved wonderful help from a few rescues in ohio and many other states. Our needs are cleaning supplies always! Bleach, pinesol, dawn, and laundry soap. Old blankets or towels are always welcomed as is simple things like treats (no rawhides please) and leashes. We want the community to help and get to know us. We are changing for the better everyday. It has been months since we have had to put a dog down for space thanks to our rescues. Fosters are also welcomed :) again please come in see the good changes we are making.( dog shelter employee)

I'm very greatful to anyone who is trying to do good for these poor animals. I try to do my part also w money donations and supplies. There is No REASON atrocities such as these should be done to these poor animals by the hands of ppl who are being paid to abuse them. I'm very thankful for the ones who actually care and want to make a difference for these animals. The poor animals don't ask to be put in this situation. This would be a great project for Friends of Ironton or ANY Ironton citizen to get involved with. The abusers MUST know people are watching an talking abt it. Our city council needs to stop ignoring the problem and turning their heads! Again, thank you to those who are trying to make a difference

it says, "The Lawrence County warden said his southeast Ohio shelter receives a large number of unwanted or stay dogs, but he is trying to reduce the high euthanasia rate."
must be why dog catcher ron hatfield and gang has been allegedly seen shooting them out in the county on back roads for recreational fun.
They actually do shoot them out in the county I've seen it. They came knocking on my door checking dog tags and asked if the dog that was outside was mine. I explained to them that he wasn't but I was feeding him since he was just dropped off. He asked if I has tags for him and I explained I didn't because he wasn't mine. His son ended up shooting the poor dog because he wouldn't come to them :(

I would have had a hard time not going after him if I had saw that. Isn't that illegal?

Not if you're the dog warden.

If you would like to help the animals in Lawrence County, one way is by donating some needed supplies. When you are shopping, pick up a bottle or two of bleach. For just a few dollars, you can help keep parvo out of the facility. Rescues back away from facilities where they fear the animals have been exposed. I would love to see the pound tell us that they have bleach "coming out their ears." Many people in the county are concerned. This is one simple way to help the animals.

The welfare workers take all donations home with them. Bill Click is hardly there and they do what they want. Commissioners fault for not making Bill responsibly for the care of the animals. He gets a big salary.

There wouldn't be so many dogs and cats killed or abused if people would stop just taking them home as gifts or pets without realizing animals are a commitment. They can live 15 years. They need food, checkups, shots, love and take up a lot of time. All this cost money. So if you can't afford time and money and just plane love stop getting pets until you can. Even then there's a lot of people out there who shouldn't have children let alone an animal. This isn't just in Ironton this happens every where.

The put the dogs and cats down because they draw money off the system. Seems like maybe we should start doing this with all the little bastard crotch fruit that is running around the hills of this state.

Stop getting animals to breed and make money. To give to your kids or just to have unless you are ready to commit 10 to 15 years of love, money and time. Animals need to eat and get shots and just plane need alot of love and care. If you cannt affoord all of those things, do us and the helpless animals a favor and leave them be. This problem gose on every where not just Ironton Ohio.

The shelter needs supplies. If there is truth to the assertion that supplies are being stolen, someone could easily snap a picture with a cell phone. One picture to the state auditor will put an end to that and to the employmentt of those stealing. I realize it is hard not to focus on the people, but the animals still need our help. The animal warden serves at the pleasure of the county commissioners. The commissioners are elected. If citizens of the county do not agree with the way the shelter is run, contact them. If that does no good, do no re-elect them. Be the change you want to see.

Getting ready for some spring cleaning? How about picking up an extra cleaning supply or two and dropping it off at the pound. Being able to assure rescues helping to place dogs from Lawrence County that diseases like parvo are eradicated helps with placement. Gallons of bleach are needed and that can be just $1. Lead a Boy Scout, Girl Scout, 4H or Camp Fire group? How about making this a project for the group? If you are interested, matching funds are available. Double your impact!
