Both my foster parents were needle users. They tried the suboxone and methadone. Eventually, they just went back to the OC's worse. They both died last year within 8 months of eachother. One O.D., the other from drug related Hep C

Thanks but I don't need another addiction... LOL Smoking pot is probably the best intervention I have ever tried and it is not addictive. But, gotta pass drug tests.

There is nothing worse than armchair doctors! IT CAN BE FATAL TO COMBINE ALCOHOL AND BUPRENORPHINE (SUBOXONE)IT YOU DO NOT HAVE A MEDICAL DEGREE STOP DISPENSING ADVISE THAT COULD KILL SOMEONE!!!!

'alcoholics' who are not in a recovery phase of ABSTINENCE can die from your advise...WTF!

Ironton girl just cut the bull. No one gets addicted on one pill. It is a decision to take more until you are addicted. I'm sick of all you saying you have a disease. Guess I was too busy working and raising kids to catch it. The only ones profitting is the docs and pharm companies. Their "research" is a convenient excuse for you. BE REAL !!!!

Another thing, you say you are paying?? Wouldn't you think after 2 years you should have gotten more for your money??
anyone who "pays" for their treatment goes to a legit dry-out center (that is not covered by Medicaid). Tell the truth you got a medical card or a disability card??? Who is paying for your "treatments"?

I've never personally met Dr. Basedow, but I know a few people that are patients. Their is also Dr. Eden, in Louisa, who takes patients as well. Dr. Eden was this year's 'Hometown Hero'.
.
Dr. Eden, won the award for his help and constant work with pregnant women, getting them off of prescription medication and methadone. He is an OBGYN and not only helps with addiction, but monitors pre-natal care, does ultra-sounds, and delivers babies.
.
Due to politics, America hasn't done much research on prescrition abuse. The only solid research that has been done is mostly in Australia. Now that it has been ignored for so long, it has become a real problem nationwide. It is worse in certain areas, but is developing everywhere.
.
They have only now just finished drug trials for suboxone for pregnant women. The results have been wonderful. Until recently, a drug dependent pregnant women, could only get methadone. Methadone requires the infant to be weened off of the drug, meaning tha the child would also be addicted. Suboxone doesn't require the infant to need any medication after birth.
.
Suboxone has been around since the 80s, but because of indifference, has not really surfaced until the last 5 or 6 years. The medication has only been available to pregnant women even less time.
.
Prescription abuse is more prominent(and scary!) because it could virtually happen to anyone. Prescription narcotics are given in the event of accidents, surgerys, and chronic pain. Once the problem is resolved, the patient is then addicted to the substance that once helped them. At that point their prescription is cancelled and they don't know what else to do other than seek out another doctor, or illegally obtain the medicine they need.
.
Withdrawl from opiates is pain. Usually the very thing the medicine treats, it deals back 10 fold in withdrawl. If you could imagine being in terrible pain + sweating and multiple other syptoms, and all it would take to feel better is one pill, would you take it?
.
These doctors are not hurting people, they are prescribing suboxone to help them get back their life. The medicine can not be given without a treatment program that includes, regular doctor visits, weekly therapy, pill counts, and urinalysis.
.
You have to be totally commited to the program and really want to change your life to make it for any length of time in this program. So next time your angry because you can't find a parking place, just think, these people have children. These children deserve a clean mother/father. And if nothing else, their kids might be attending your kids' school. Don't let the cycle continue. If you know someone that is dependent and needs help, please refer them to a suboxone program! methadone is killing our families, causing major car accidents, and ruining lives.
