Does anybody have or know of any resources pertaining to the Ironton Mantel Company? I have an old mantel I am restoring with a tag from this company and would like to do some research.

Thanks for any assistance,

Jim, I am going to go to the Ironton Museum tomorrow and see what they have on The Mantle Company. I did find that it was in operation 1893 - 1915. Ironton was founded in 1849 by John Campbell and a Mr. Campbell ran the company. Possibly the same person. If you research the history of Ironton and Lawrence county you will find that he was involved in just about everything. I believe I have seen some of these mantles in some of the old homes in Ironton.

Hey Outsider! I thought of another way to get some pictures to you without you exposing your email addy on a public site like this. I have put a couple of pics in Photobucket: One being of the mantel and the other being of the tag. The metal fire grate is not original to the mantel I just have that to try and bring it in with the restoration. The mirroe is bevel edged , you can't tell much about the mirroe because you are seeing another mirror from across the room. Copy the pictures and open them with your fax viewer so you can zoom in on the tag. I wish they would have dated the tag.

Jim, I was able to look at the pictures and that is awesome. Are you going to remove the paint from the mantle? I have been in some of the old houses from that period and saw several mantles that I am sure were made by this company. Some were still unpainted. All homes from that period had multiple fireplaces. Would like to see it after you restore it. There is a Museum here in town but it is closed for the season. Keep checking back and when I find something I will post it. If you don't care to leave your email address I can show you homes in the area from that period.(photos)
