I posted this on the South Point forum just now and thought I would post it here too. I know this is crazy, but I saw what I believe was the Mothman on the Russell bridge. I don't really believe in stuff like this, but my sister told me today that the bridge shifted last week and dropped in one section up to six inches. That is just to scary for me to ignore. If you remember the Silver bridge fell just before Christmas. Just thought I'd give a heads up. I'm too embarrassed to go to the news with this.

Heck with Mothman, it's open season on Bigfoot.$10 mill to first one that brings him in. With Obama winning , jobs will probably be as rare as Bigfoot, so I'm loaded for bear...(yeti).

Honestly I have never believed in ghosts or Bigfoot or Mothman. I am finding though as I get older I've been giving certain things a second look. I can understand (a little) how people think they see weird things. I remember crossing the Russell bridge and getting that creepy feeling. Also one of my best friends says he saw a "Mothman" like creature near the ironton flood wall. You never know

The bridge didn't drop:

Last week’s special inspection of the Ironton-Russell Bridge prompted from a passerby’s report that the decking had dropped four to six inches is showing that the opposite actually happened, state officials are saying.

“The bridge inspector on Tuesday morning did the measurement that showed half an inch,” said Kathleen Fuller, public information officer for the District 9, Ohio Department of Transportation.“The logs at the past inspection last year showed five-eighths of an inch. Now that is a smaller elevation.”

On Monday night at approximately 7 p.m. the bridge was shut down for an hour with police from Ironton and Russell, Ky., blocking either end of the structure.

About an hour later, ODOT employees from the local garage who are familiar with the condition of the bridge, as well as contractors working on construction of the new bridge, inspected it and determined it was safe to reopen the bridge. The ODOT officials said the issue appeared to be tied to expansion joints near an abutment on the Ohio side, potentially tied to the rapid change in temperature, and has happened in the past, Fuller said at that time.

Tuesday’s bridge inspection showed there was no drop.

“Nothing dropped,” Fuller said.“It was already like that. Last year at this time it was five-eighth of an inch. Now it is less. It is closing itself in.”

For the next two weeks during the day, Richland Engineering will conduct the annual inspection of the structure.

“It should be maintenance, routine,” Fuller said.

The inspection will start on Monday.

“There will be no closures, just flagging,” Fuller said.

The bridge will not be closed during peak hours in the morning and afternoon.

Are you kidding me? A bridge, an old bridge at that, has shifted anywhere from 6 inches to a negative 1/2 inch and that doesn't bother anyone. The Silver bridge didn't give any signs of shifting before it fell. I've been doing some reading about the Silver bridge and the Mothman sightings, and as crazy as it sounds, I'm thinking there's something to it. Why wouldn't we be concerned? Christmas is next month, the bridge moved, there have been at least 2 sightings of a "creature", flying around. If just half of the stories were true about the Silver bridge, then we should all be really concerned about this bridge.

I've been concerned about that bridge for YEARS, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the Mothman. It's old,and it should have been replaced along time ago.

Let's just hope she holds till the new one is complete.

The Mothman was a prank done by a boy from Ironton named Jeff Lockwood. He thought that it was hilarious that people swore that it was over seven feet tall.Jeff was about 5 ft 7 in when he pulled this off!

He did Bigfoot not mothman. I also know he didn't go all the way to Point Pleasent to make his self seen back in the 70s at Silver bridge.

If the bridge falls it will not be because of Mothman, it will be because, if I am correct it was built in 1922!

Do your homework...Mothman didn't make the Silver Bridge fall. He was warning people that it was going to fall.(according to legend)
