Ohio had 119 coal-fired generating units at 35 locations in 2005, with 23,825 MW of capacity - representing 64.9% of the state's total electric generating capacity, and making Ohio the biggest coal energy producing state in the U.S. Obama and Biden intend to change all this.

4 more years of Obama and you will see your electric bills tripled, Ironton.

Worst president in history. Don't believe his lies.

See how Obama and Biden really feel about coal in Ohio:

If not for federal subsidies, there would be no green energy movement in this country.(See "Solyndra" for results).

Wind generator credits go away at the end of this year. Wind gen manufacturers expect to lay off most of their work forces as a result.

Follow the money between Excelon Corp and Obama and some of his cronies. Excelon is a huge nuke operator based out of Chicago... eliminating coal is just fime with them....

The reason the coal industry is declining is because of natural gas. It is cheaper to use the "fracking" method of natural gas retrieval than it is to mine coal.

But you have to take the maintenance difference
into consideration.
coal $30.00 per mw hour produced.
Natural gas $57.00 mw hour produced.
Its all about the Obama's administrations war on coal.

if gas was cheaper than coal all gas fired generating units would run 24 x 7 and coal fired units would cycle on and off line for peaking.

there would be an explosion of construction in gas fired units. while they are on the increase, it's no boom.

cheaper to extract gas than coal? debatable.

Gas-fired electric cheaper than coal-fired? definitely not.

The reason gas fired units may be more expensive now is all in the conversion process. Once there are more gas using units, the ultimate price will be much cheaper. Remember when VCRs first came out, they cost about $800. When everyone started producing and using them, the price dropped dramatically.

Eventually, If you haven't noticed, there are plenty of gas power plants. They all stay down until the prices of megawatts are high enough to financially justify starting up. Which isn't very often. Not to mention they put out a fraction of the power that coal puts out, there would have to be twice as many gas plants to come close to matching the electricity coal puts out.

what conversion process? the infrastructure has been in place for decades. Installation costs for gas-fired plants are fractions of the cost for coal fired.

However, production costs for coal are less than gas.

War on coal, my ass. Coal is nearly over, and everyone knows it. Coal company owners are fighting hard to continue knocking the tops off mountains, poisoning the air, the water and the ground itself, and they NEED those filthy coal-fired power plants to last awhile. They're hoping Ohio voters are as dumb as those in Kentucky and West Virginia. We're not.

Shows how ignorant you are... the vast majority of our electric in the northeast quadrant of the US is coal-fired electric. Get a clue.

Let me guess, you come from the same polling group recently queried by Howard Stern?

Get a clue
----------

Here's one. In 1997, 52% of US energy came from coal. In 2009, it was 45%. This year alone, there was a quick drop to 36%, the same as the percentage gained by cheap natural gas. See a trend? I know, I know, it will be tough to give up toxic air, greenhouse gases, acid rain, mercury poisoning. But all good things must come to an end, and even coal bosses, those charmers with their deadly workplaces, understand that. They're trying to get while the gettin's good, dummy.
