In a shocking display of intimidation tactics, a New York newspaper took the time to gather every publicly-available address of every gun owner in the lower Hudson valley region and publish them publicly on its website. The Journal News published gun owners' home addresses in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties.
Understandably, people were outraged:

The map sparked more than 500 comments from readers within a day of its appearance on the website, many of them voicing outrage at the paper’s decision to make the information public.
“This is CRAZY!! why in the world would you post every licensed gun owner information?? What do you hope to accomplish by doing this. This is the type of thing you do for sex offenders not law abiding gun owners. What next? should i hang a flag outside my house that says I own a gun? I am canceling my subscription with your paper today!!!” said commenter Curtis Maenza.

“How about a map of the editorial staff and publishers of Gannett and Journal News with names and addresses of their families…,” wrote commenter George Thompson.

The newspaper claimed it was merely providing a public service, because its readers "are understandably interested to know about guns in their neighborhoods."

So obviously this newspaper thinks that guns kill people instead of people with mental issues. Every subscriber who disagrees with their "verdict" should cancel their subscriptions and post the addresses of all their executive staff who obviously approved this to be done. Dumb azzes aren't worth half of the over-inflated salary they receive.

Attorneys? is there some kind of privacy law that they could be charged with? This stuff needs to be stopped before it spreads.

May I add, that I do not have guns and I do not want any. But I support all the law abiding citizens who are NOT mentally incompetent in their right to have one.

If my name were published, I would sue the paper, the editor, and everyone involved.

The gun owners can't sue the paper because it is a public record,IE FOIA.They MIGHT have a lawsuite if one of their homes are broken into or they are getting treaths from their neighbors/co workers. If I lived in that area I would more ticked off because the paper just made my home a target for the thugs that know that I didn't have a way to protect myself.

The newspaper is out of their minds. They just posted the addresses of people that have firearms. Now if I was a thug/burglar I know which houses I would be targeting. They could hit the jackpot and come up with several guns which will be sold to non law abiding citizens to commit more crimes and to possibly kill someone.

AHHHHH the media, got love their bonehead moves

Many communities make you pay for the complete information and record. Also after 9/11 and the Patriot Act many states imposed restrictions on what could be released like social security numbers etc. Now if a social security number in the wrong hands is open to criminal abuse why not the address of a gun owner.

New York Newspaper to Release More Names of Gun Permit Owners After Uproar

More names and addresses will be added to a map that was originally posted on Christmas Eve in the Journal News from White Plains, NY. The first map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland county, which are just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled "The gun owner next door:

http://townhall.com/tipsheet/heatherginsberg/...

Most of my neighbors have guns and know how to use them.
My neighbors who don't have guns also don't have alarms but they do have some very nice things.

I have guns and an alarm

This is turning into a flat out pissing contest. Is it about about control or actual safety no. They say their 'motivations' are "safety" but it's basically a symbolic hissy fit tactic by a heavily anti gun editor. I would have more respect for her stance on gun control if she defended her position and not used a spitefull child tactic of "outing" gun owners in those counties.

If nothing else it shows gun ownership isn't all wack a dos. The publisher of that newspaper is on that map.

It also shows the dangers of a public facebook account because that's what the blogger posted. Did that newspaper or editor ever do a story on the hazards of facebook posting?

My prediction came true, the thieves are using the list to get their guns. These newspapers are a joke, they don't care about anything they just want to stir the pot.
