I was getting the D&C paper Thu - sun and the online version for $13/m. When the jerks called and said it was going to $21/m I said I would cancel. I was asked if I would stay at $19/m. I said no and then was asked what it would take. When I said $13/m he said no and I cancelled.
Similar with TWC cable; i was paying $73/m and they wanted to jack me to $92/m. told them I'd stay at $50 and they gave me $63; $9 LESS than I was paying before!
My Plow guy tried to raise me $10 this year and I signed the contract substituting last year's rate and he honored it.
From now on, whenever I get these boneheads jacking my rates, i'm cancelling if they won't keep at the same or less than i was paying. All you have to do is push back a little an many times they'll capitulate to keep their market share.
If everyone did this prices would drop like a freekin rock.

I suggest that once a year you call the phone company and cable company to cancel. They always have secret deals to prevent this.
I agree, negotiate everything. If they won't negotiate, dump the supplier. Plow guys are a dime a dozen in Monroe County, just like landscapers, painters and lawn services.
