Regardless of all the pseudo-racial BS that seems to be the all the rage here, I think this country spends way too much money on the underachievers than they do on kids who could skyrocket with exposure to great teachers and tools.

But here's the deal.....

Affirmative action in the United States began as a tool to address the persistent discrimination against African Americans in the 1960s. This specific term was first used to describe US government policy in 1961. Directed to all government contracting agencies, President John F. Kennedy's Executive Order 10925 mandated "affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin."[11]

Four years later, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law Executive Order 11246 codifying Affirmative Action, compelling Federal Contractors to establish written programs. President Johnson elaborated on the importance of affirmative action to achieving true freedom for African Americans:

Nothing is more freighted with meaning for our own destiny than the revolution of the Negro American...In far too many ways American Negroes have been another nation: deprived of freedom, crippled by hatred, the doors of opportunity closed to hope...But freedom is not enough. You do not wipe away the scars of centuries by saying: Now you are free to go where you want, and do as you desire, and choose the leaders you please. You do not take a person who, for years, has been hobbled by chains and liberate him, bring him up to the starting line of a race and then say,'you are free to compete with all the others,' and still justly believe that you have been completely fair...This is the next and the more profound stage of the battle for civil rights. We seek not just freedom but opportunity. We seek not just legal equity but human ability, not just equality as a right and a theory but equality as a fact and equality as a result...To this end equal opportunity is essential, but not enough, not enough.[12]

I believe once the American people elected an Afro-American President it was proof the need for A.A. was over. Lets get back to employment and scholarships based on ability and intelligence. The fact A.A. still exists would lead me to believe Afro-Americans believe they can't compete with white people even though white people proved voting in the election found a black man capable of the highest job status in America. You can copy and paste an article out of wiki but fact remains the people were okay with a Afro-American leading their country. So why would those same people in smaller based perspective not give a job or scholarship to a black man?

*When the cops stop brutalizing (tasing, falsely accusing & profiling people of color...
*When the drugs & guns stop flowing freely in communities of color.....
*When the criminal injustice system stops conviction disparities.....
*When nepotism and racism of hiring practices cease....
*When ALL educational institutions (K - 12) are equal....
*When people of color have businesses and work in SUBURBAN communities like whites do in the "Hood" which they are afraid of and consistently disparage.....

THEN and ONLY THEN WILL THERE BE NO NEED FOR SOME TYPE OF ACTION..... AFFIRMATIVE OR WHATEVER!!!

Affirmative action is a racist policy towards both blacks and non-blacks both. It is counter to all American laws and is in clear violation of the Constitution. even if it did serve a purpose, that purpose is long gone and it is time for blacks to take the bull by the horns and do something based on their own merits and because of an entitlement based on the color of their skin and how their ancestors were treated over 100 years ago.It puts black people down in all reality by saying they are unable to do things on their own without intervention by others. It discriminates against non-blacks by creating racial quotas.These made up numbers of how many black people should be working for someone is lunacy.Just look at all the people who have been paying Union dues while their union has given them no work.Now that the unions will be having jobs for them with the RCSD, they will be left unemployed because of the nutjob racial quotas the city has imposed in order to bid on those jobs. New cheap black and hispanics will be brought in and will get away with whatever because of the need to keep with those quotas. Meanwhile the guys who have been paying their dues for years will be hung out to dry.Anyone who thinks this is fairness is off their rocker.

MANY, MANY, MANY....and I understand NUMEROUS White people voted for and elected PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA.

Thats one b ig problem with any kind of hand out.You can give people something inorder to help them in a situation they may be in. The thing is when that situation is corrected, those getting the hand out come to feel that it is a birth right they have.Now that they don't have the problem they needed help with, it is now time to enjoy that handout.

BLACK WALL street about Tulsa Oklahoma and ROSEWOOD are just 2 REAL LIFE situations in which Blacks "had the boots by the strap" in this country.

Whites have proven to be some evil people by the treacherous acts they've committed specifically upon Black people, which went on for generations.

I was hoping for an intelligent response but seems you are going the way of poor me I'm black and life hasn't been fair to me white people are keeping me down. Life isn't fair. No matter race or country. One thing is for certain hard working intelligent people in any race will almost always get ahead, just ask Barack Obama. Intelligence and hard work ethics can not be given to anyone they can only be earned!!!

Yes. Someone else also made that point in this thread but with different words. The point was made to support the idea that if whites can take part and vote in a black president then is AA still relevant?

What makes black people so special? White people have committed evil on many of races including their own, The Crusades, The slaughter of Indians, The Holocaust... On the flip side blacks have committed plenty of evil. In Africa at least once a year there is a genocide on blacks committed by blacks over politics, religion, and land. Blacks in this country are over proportionally involved in violent crimes more than whites.

What I am getting at is evil is every where in all colors and places. Blaming someone else for ones problems or needing special and set up things like A.A. does not help anyone achieve greatness or intelligence. Most people with high levels of intelligence will put others of the same character around them regardless of race or color they don't need a quota of certain races they just need intelligence and hard working people.

When you are in a burning building, do you care what your rescuer looks like? Or do you want the best, most qualified individual to come and pull you from the fire? When you start prefering people for a job based on how they look, instead of how they perform and are qualified, you can put people in danger. Creating opportunities and improving education seem like better uses of our time and money. All our communities need to start coming together. Maybe when China and/or Russia invade we will pull together as Americans.

I can understand your stance, I cannot deny the truth. I have worked in suburban locations that I loved and truly been a minority. I know there are MANY qualified people of color and systemic racism will keep them unemployed. A white person with a criminal record is more apt to be hired before a Black with a college degree--FACT!!!

By the same token, its a rare occurrence to see police abuse and brutalize whites to the degree Blacks are when they "run" or whatever.
