Who's the king of 'Hot Dog Row'?
Most Rochesterians have a burger joint of choice. Those who grew up here likely prefer the place their parents took them to as children and the list includes Bill Gray's, Tom Wahl's, Schaller's, Don's Original and Vic & Irv's. Something has happened to the hot sauce at Bill Grays. Back in the day when it was the old building, they used to make their own sauce daily using left over bread and meat and spices and it rivaled Nick Tahous.
Now they must have it made mass quantity for all its locations from out of town. Cuz it is not the same. It's too dark, too spicy in a bad way, and has no real flavor.
Too bad cuz the burgers there are great and fries too.
I prefer hot sauce from Vics, Don's, Nick's, Irondequoit Hots and Schallers over Bill Grays by a Mile.
Yes, the Rings are better at Vic & Irv's.
But I love sitting at the counter on a round stool at Don & Bob's.
