<quoted text> I see you took up your whole yard for a garden. I wish I didn't have the hurdle stopping me from that. I can't understand why people don't like beets. I plant a lot of swiss shard and kale and people give me the same reaction. I really think you shocked the plants planting them early. Have you home canned before or are you just trying it out?
I was tempted by the leafy veggies this year, but decided against it. I may pick up some bluberry bushes if the price is right, and they look good to start. I planted four boxwoods and ended up losing all but one of them. Then I planted a scraggly japanese maple, and it looks great now. It's probably 4x the size I bought it. It's hit or miss sometimes I guess.

The blueberry bushes at Home Depot have tons of blooms on them. I don't know how much they were, though.

I keep saying I going to get a couple blueberry bushes. I have a strawberry patch . Have you done a soil PH test? You will probably want to add some sulphur your soil. The thing I really like about greens is they are the first to produce and you can keep growing them all the way to the first frost. Most of them will even handle a light one. They also require almost no attention.Plus,I love chard, kale, and dandelion greens tossed in oil and vinegar. You use just the root or do you eat the beet greens to?

Crap. I just pulled out like 200 danelions and told my dad I wish his neighbor who absolutely loved them was still alive! He used to fry the flowers and steam the greens.

They are delicious.Try them if you never have.As long as you don't use pesticide or lawn spray companies on your grass. The flowers make damn good wine too. My friends my age who only know city life think it is nuts to eat wild weeds.

You got to drink that beer. You need the shwill at the bottom to trap the slugs.

I guess speaking the truth will get you kicked off...yet...Crotchety can post thread after thread starting with, "White did this..." "White did that..." and remain. Actually, I think "it" has gotten booted twice this week also.

A slice of humble pie and a hug would do her a lot of good.

As if THAT would ever happen! LOL! Now I gotta try to kill this damn bluebell weed that has decided to take up the back half of my back lawn. Glad I held off on planting too. Just saw the weather forecast and will definitely be too cold for veggies. You did the right thing by holding off!

Never plant seed producing vegetables before Mothers Day. I wait till the week off Memorial day. Only greens, pods, and tubers before.

Bluebell's a wench. I got it too. I got to get rid of these damn wild fox grapes first. It will wait though I picked some dandelions and will be having them with some fried bullhead in a few.
