Local reaction to emergency contraception for 17-year-olds

Full story: WHEC-TV Rochester, NY

Some call it emergency contraception, while others say it's an abortion pill. On Wednesday, the FDA said 17-year-olds can get it without a doctor's prescription.

While I would rather not see a morning after pill, I have to ask myself whether it would be acceptable to bring an unwanted child into the world. My views on abortion have changed radically after watching the antics of the right to life crowd constantly shoving pictures into peoples faces, vandalizing clinics and assaulting doctors. Your credibility would be much greater if turned your attentions to supporting the unwanted children AFTER they are born. Oh and lets not forgot the young mothers that end up dropping out of school to care for their children. None of us want to see them on the dole forever either. Since we have not been able to stop teenagers from having sex, we should be either promoting safe sex a lot harder or setting up programs for care of unwanted children. If the right to life crowd can step up to the plate for the unwanted children, I could certainly change my views.

My wife and I were both appalled at the way Rich Funke used the phrase "and get this..." in the teaser about this story. You are not FOX news...please keep your reporting objective and keep your own views out of it. This was very surprising and dissappointing.

You hit the nail on the head! A number of years ago the head of the Alabama Right to Life organization was arrested for failure to pay child support, he was $1000's in arrears.

It is like being against the cruel treatment of animals in slaughter houses while you are eating your hamburger.

This is not free, just no prescription needed, just like with sinus medicine. However you do need to sign a form for the "over the counter" sinus medicine....tweeker!

This is why this pill should exist and be available to 17 year olds. There is no greater argument FOR this than a perfect example:

i go both ways with this idea of the morning after pill. first i say its a good thing like for instance if a woman or girl was raped, she wouldn't be able to go through the pain of seeing her kid and being reminded of the horrible thing that was done to her. but then i got to say the other thing is having the morning after pill makes these teeny boppers you know the ones who hang out at the mall wearing practicly nothing and think they're so cool. the idea that hell i can have as much sex as i want cause i can take the pill and it will take care of my pregnancy. i mean it is a good idea as long as it falls into the right hands. but todays kids and i don't think i'm alone are a whole different bread. it seems they're getting dummer, forgive me but if you shop at the mall you know what i'm talking about. i do agree that if they gave it to these poor countries that do nothing but have sex it would help out with the over population issue.

i'd have to say you have to understand there is no such thing as safe sex. condoms break, the birth control pill is only so much percentage and if do any oral that leads to going further. if you understand if you have sex you have to face the facts you may get her pregnant. thers no two ways about it, but i would hope you'd wait to finish high school or something and when your ready then do it. but you do have to keep in mind there are stds out there so be safe, this pill is like playing god. we should have no control over life or death. but if the right hands get it like i said before its not a bad thing.

It has been observed that the abortion pills have plenty of side effects and women should understand that it is not the only way to terminate their pregnancy. It is always better to consult a doctor before taking any kind of step. You never know what will go wrong in the way and might affect your entire life. However, one of the popular birth controls, MIrena IUD, has been reported to cause serious side-effects on its users. In fact, there are a number of lawsuits filed against its manufacturers. If you want to know more about Mirena and its side effects, key-in "Mirena lawsuit" in Google or refer at mirenalawsuit.us/iuds-like-mir ena-widely-used-but-controvers ial-contraceptive-devices/ for more related information.

This should be a huge boon for the drug companies. Especially on Sundays. Gotta love capitalism. Buy stock, this is going to be big.

Mrs. Bovenzi would be more in the need of a
