Fred, you make a point when you say that you would want to buy a car from a dealer for nothing else would for the warranty, and in general you are correct. Facts are the big name dealers in town only keep the best used cars and they simply dump their leftovers to the guys who are posting them on CL.
People feel comfortable buy a 2 year old car with 20k miles on it for doan or hoselton, but we are talking about 10 year old cars with 140k miles on them for the most part.
There is a reason that car buyers dont want any part of these at any price as for the most part they are all worn out by then or the original owners would keep them.
I have no problem with any business trying to make money as that is the backbone of our economy.
My problem is with the people posting as owners on Craigslist to try to scam car buyers. Clearly CL points out this by stating private parties no dealers when posting. Why is it one would ask dont they just post in the dealer section well there is 2 reasons, one being that dont want to pay the required 5 dollar fee, and the second is they know deep down they understand that buyers want no part of the run down junk cars they are selling.
If they are going to keep trying to scam people this forum is a great place to call them out.
And by the way you sound like a close minded Lonesberry listener that is upset by the fact that are still working in your 60s and not on early retirement like I am in my late 50s !!
Actually, I don't listen to Lonsbery, I find him disingenuous. And besides, I do still work because, unlike you, I don't feel like being on the government's teat like you.

Thanks for the discourse, you sound slightly smarter than your brethren on this site!

After all, our great country was built on opposing viewpoints that can co-exist together!
Take care.

Dont Fred I am not living on a govt. handout as after 37 years at Kodak I took an early retirement and am enjoying my well deserved pension while waiting for my SIP and social security to kick in as after 37 years I deserve it .

Cheers !

What the name of these dealers?
These dealers are so small that they do not list their name online however a quick google search can show many of the names .

Well then, instead of sounding like a boy with sour grapes in his mouth do the google search and tell us who the dealers are!

I like the idea of just flagging every one of their dumb asses !!

No stickers in the ad I will flag them along with the saying of just inspected a dead giveaway !!

People can stop this just by flagging them !

No-one is getting called out.

Getting called out is using their names, and no names are being used here.

I agree with the DMV guy.

Another way to look at it is if a dealer is willing to screw w/ Craigslist's rules (they do have reasons) you better believe they're gonna be more than happy to screw their customers too.

I just don't understand how they are scamming buyers?
They are scamming buying by advertising as individual owners. Most savvy car buyers tend to stay away from cheap broke down cars that are bought out of the local car auctions only to be flipped for profit. Buyers want to buy from actual owners with a history of service on the car.
By coming off as the owner they are committing fraud .

But isn't advertising as individual owners different then selling as individual owners?

Any business simply would be forced to close the doors by continuous false advertising. One might ask why are these dealers not posting where they belong and the simple answer is educated car buyers want no part of the lower end market that they sell and they have to resort to trying to fool buyers.

How would they be forced out of business???

Doesn't it cost money for dealers to post cars on cl???????
Maybe they are just avoiding the costs???

You are yet to prove these dealers are actually selling a car as an owner.
Have you contacted them with interest in a car and see what happens?
Do they meet you at a dealer or do they meet you at a house??

Seems you are just flapping your gums.

It's not false advertising unless it is followed by a sale under those pretenses.

If anything, it looks like these dealers are cheating cl.

Answer 1 They are being reported to the state for advertising as an owner instead of a dealer

Answer 2 If these bums are willing to cheat CL out of the 5 dollar fee what does that say to any potential car buyer that they will cheat and swindle them to make a buck.
