Well once again the time has come to open another basketball season and the so called fans of the Razorsharks pulled another no show last night.

So it seems that the R Sharks are bound and determined not to paper the town in free tickets again this year and that is a good idea as it takes away from the value of the product. The team seems to try this tactic each and every year and after a few games with crowds in the 400-500 range they revert back to giving away tickets just to get fans into the building.

The only problem with that thinking is the VAST majority of their fans simply will not support the team at even a 5 dollar cost and that is a shame.

The R Sharks do put on a entertaining show at a very low cost it is to bad their fans wont go unless they can get in for free.

Sorry skippy, this town is saturated with events. The free-market will determine the demand and price. If fans don't show up when tickets are low cost or free, then there's no demand for the event. Simple. Too many sporting events, not enough fans.

The Razorsharks are good affordable family fun to bad that the majority of their fans are so used to a handout for all of there needs in life they simply do not pay for anything.

I am sorry to be so blunt however I was at the game last night and clearly the amount of black fans in the stands last night was only a fraction of what is usually there.

Yes there are only so many sports fan in town and these teams that cater to those fans that might not support the Wings, or Amerks need to come out for sports that they like or yes they will go away in-time.

FYI... The Red Wings give away thousands of tickets to EVERY game....are those white fans only there because they received a handout or don't pay for anything?

There a several problems with the Razorsharks. The biggest is the League they play in.
If they belong to the NBA D-League with a player affiliation with a NBA team. Attendance would increase substantially.

Basketball will never have enough draw to support multiple leagues. Pro and college basketball is barely exciting or interesting enough. Minor league basketball?? Nobody cares to pay to see what can be watched in any city park with a rim.

Try telling that to the 30000 fans that go to Syracuse for college basketball games.

Yeah, every basketball fan in the state is there. My point is basketball will never be able to support any more offerings than College and The NBA provide. It is just not a good enough game to support minor leagues.

White folks from the burbs just dont go to the soccer stadium in the ghetto anymore. They used to play infront of 10k plus crowds at the other stadium.

Agreed it was a huge mistake to build the soccer stadium next to the ghetto.

u must not be a sports fan. NCAA and March Madness are huge. And the NBA. NBA is global. Preseason NBA came to Blue Cross arena a few years ago and I nearly sold the building out. Even minor league has a little following

That's because the newness from the stadium has worn off. People came out to see the stadium, not the game. Soccer is very boring to watch in person and on tv. It's a European game more than an American game.

Kim Pig your post disappeared but, you have no idea what your talking about. I never said the Wings had to give away tickets.
It's not a matter of black and white fans either.
Both organizations give away tickets to encourage fans to become paying ticket holders. Admissions, especially in the case of the Wings, isn't their money maker. Concessions are!.......another item of interest, they haven't paid rent to the County in almost 8 years. So yeah, they can afford to give away a few thousand tickets a game. The return on the concessions purchased by those fans more than covers the cost of the $5 ticket.

It has nothing to do with stadium location. By that logic, the Wings playing 3 blocks away are also in the "Ghetto". They hit record attendances of 10,000+ regularly.

If you base it on Police presence....the BCA must really be in a bad neighborhood. There are more Police at an Amerks game on the street and inside the BCA; than at Wings and Rhinos games combined.

It's the product being offered. In the beginning the Rhino's had well known world class players.
And Rochester fans were lead to believe that the team was going to join the MLS. Or at minimum have an affiliation with a MLS team in the A-League. With the construction of a new stadium.

We all know how Donner and Company ran both the Rhinos and the Amerks into the ground.
The Amerks were able to recover. The Rhinos haven't done so well.

I will watch the basketball playoffs a little, but until that point the regular season is BORING. No need to watch Tree Hockey when there is real Hockey on.

I agree NBA regular season doesn't do it for me anymore. I use to be a huge fan but it has changed in the past ten years.

Yeah, I can't really stand the NFL much anymore either. Football is turned into being to much like watching the WWF.

Thing is with Baseball and Hockey is that there is still high quality talent that is not quite up to Major league status. These players still put on an exciting game. Basketball on the other hand is such a simple and plain game that those who are worth watching are in the NBA. Whats left are just crap. Hell even most of the NBA is nothing to watch. It is just not that good of a game. Both in what it takes to play or in what it offers the spectator.

My feeling on hockey mirrors yours on basketball but, to each his own. Until the Rhinos and Razorsharks join higher level leagues; and sign better known talent(even if its "has beens") they are not going to draw the Wings/Amerks attendance numbers.

I just dont understand why the so called sports fans in town continue to ignore the Razorsharks at the box office. The team has moved away from giving away thousands of free tickets this year and instead has focused on providing affordable tickets , yes you can get into a game for 5 dollars.

Well sad to see with another crowd of 500 fans one has to wonder how they keep the doors open ??

Plain and simple RSharks fans simply will not pay to see a game. Things are so bad that the newspaper never reports the attendance number ANYWHERE !!

Yesterday the RSharks drew 500 max then at night the Knighthawks drew 9200 you make the conclusion.
