A recent spate of violent events in a northeast city neighborhood the size of just a few blocks — while likely not connected — has community members concerned and police vigilant.

Since a homicide at 17 Second St. on Feb. 25, there have been three separate shootings, two home invasions and, most recently, a 37-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on North Goodman Street near High Street.

Four of the events took place on or near High Street, which is about 0.2 miles long and takes 36 seconds to drive down, and all of the crimes have prompted violent-felony investigations for the police department’s East Division.

Here are some of the violent incidents that have occurred in the neighborhood since Feb. 25:

6:39 p.m., Feb. 25: Adjaukumar Graham, 31, was found dead on the sidewalk in front of 17 Second St. from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, police said. Police said they received multiple 911 calls about a person being shot.

8:20 p.m., Feb. 27: A Rochester man was shot inside a hair salon at 471 Bay St. The man, who is in his 30s, was shot multiple times in his lower body and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening. The shooter ran from the scene before police arrived.

10:50 p.m., Feb. 28: A 21-year-old man was wounded when he was shot several times near 24 Durnan St. The man, whose name was not released, had been shot numerous times in the lower body but managed to make it to the corner of Durnan and Hudson Avenue and went inside the Durnan Mini Mart, where the store’s owner called 911. That event is believed to be connected to the shooting of a house earlier.

4:48 a.m., March 3: One man was shot and wounded inside his residence, and a second male resident was pistol-whipped during a home invasion robbery at 51 High St. Police said at least two men broke into the home and were confronted by the victims. One man, 28, was shot in the upper body; the other, 21, was pistol-whipped. Both were taken to Strong for non-life-threatening injuries.

10:11 p.m. March 3: Three men entered a home at 137 High St. looking for another man who apparently was not home. When the call came in to police, officers were nearby and the three men were arrested quickly after a brief foot chase.

11:20 p.m., March 4: A northbound vehicle struck Harry Andrews as he was pouring gas into the tank of a parked sport utility vehicle on North Goodman Street near High Street. Andrews, who lived in the neighborhood, was thrown into the roadway and died at Rochester General Hospital shortly after midnight. On Friday, Police Chief James Sheppard announced that the city’s red-light camera system helped police catch the suspect, 22-year-old Nazareth College junior Daniel S. Garver. Garver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident-injury resulting in death, a felony. He pleaded not guilty in City Court.
