You are also incorrect about not getting billed by the volunteer ambulances. MOST (not all) ambulance corps are billing now. They have to in order to survive financially. Especially those that need to supplement their staffing with paid personnel. In fact, in many towns where the ambulance was once a part of the fire district, they are being separated for that very reason. Chili and Hamlin are two examples. Don't be to surprised to see this in the future with West Webster and Union Hill as well. The billing is not done out of greed, it is done out of necessity. Demands on training by the state and feds has increased dramatically over the years while the number of people willing to volunteer their time has decreased significantly. This is not a local issue, but a nationwide trend. More and more, agences are finding that they have to hire paid staffing to fill shifts that they do not have enough volunteers to cover.
My proposal is to have the three fire departments in Irondequoit surrender their CON's in an agreement to allow IA to cover the entire town. The fire departments could continue to provide first response EMS services in their districts. This is a service which they already due an outstanding job at and should continue to do so. The firefighters in these departments are an awesome group of people who should be proud of what they do and most certainly should continue doing.
By doing this, Irondequoits Ambulance service could then assume reponsibility for the entire town. They are an ALS provider so there would be no need to contract with a commercial provider, and no increased expense to the patient. Irondequoit Ambulance would bill the insurance company, and with the increased coverage area they should be able to survive financially.
Right now, IA is struggling financially and is in danger of having to shut down operations because so much of the population it serves is on medicare and medicaid which does not reimburse even the full expense of covering the call. This plan would provide greater financial stability for IA without having to drastically increase taxes and improve patient care by improving response times.
Perhaps Brett Davidson could do some investigative reporting on this!

Yes I acknowledge being a supporter, it is sad for such a low turnout since a small portion of eligible voters decided the election, but that is done. All the past supervisors have had there problems and issues, Deming, Mazzola, Lapple, Schantz. Let's see how well this group does. I'm sure in 2 years or maybe less people will find something to complain that they are/are not doing. As for taxes, I DON'T have kids, but pay my school taxes every year. So I guess I am getting nothing for my $$

Heyman said "negative campaigning" did her in. Actually, Daurizio did not run a particularly negative campaign. Instead it was negative ads run by once Heyman supporter Richard Barone that had much to do with Heyman's defeat. Barone is a town "watchdog" and one of the most negative people on the planet. His negative ads helped defeat 8 yr former supervisor David Shantz 4 yrs ago - which is how Heyman was originally elected. This time Barone's attacks came back to bite Heyman.

Yes trust me, having lived in Irondequoit all of my life, Richard Barone is the town "Crab Meister" for sure. I wonder is he finds any happiness. Cheri Evershed is a close second. These two find nothing but faults with everyone and everything

They are two of the reasons that Irondequoit is such a laughing stock. Barone and Evershed have all of the answers for this town, but neither one of them has the balls to run for public office. They would rather tear others down than use their energy to build this town up. I think they need to shut the hell up and just go away.

I'm happy to see that others are of the same opinion. Think about it if they ran, would you vote for either of them?? I certainly wouldn't. Who knows, we might be surprised with the newly elected, but I won't hold my breath.

Typical IDIOT Liberal - They always have the answers when it comes to fork tonguing the public - take your head out your butt and just look at the joke that Irondequoit has become! CRAZY LIBERAL!

Irondequoit, you will soon realize that you get what you vote for. Republicans don't care about the people, they care about what's best for Republicans. If you think this town is in bad shape under Heyman, just wait a year and you'll be ready to run D'Aurizio out of town on a rail. She is "back to the same old same old" that has bogged down this town in politics and made us a laughing stock across the state for years. I wish her well, but if you look at her background, she isn't qualified to run for anything. She just has a husband who is politically connected.

I totally agree with "The same old same old". Republicans are good for lining their pockets and looking out for their own. Be prepasred for more dysfunction in our town then we have seen in a long time. I look forward to the Town craba** Richard Barone to be rearing his ugly head more often.

Nice comeback. I can tell you spent a lot of time finding just the right words. Nice use of capitalization, too. Glad you set me straight. Thanks!

Now can the people of Irondequoit please stand up and do SOMETHING to fix the horrible mess you have with ambulance coverage?
St. Paul who for the life of me I can't figure out why they are even allowed to have an ambulance because they turf almost all of their calls to Monroe Ambulance.
St. Paul can't be bothered with even responding to BLS priority 4 calls. They feel they are above those and the automatically send Monroe during the daytime! Why bother even having ambulances if you are not going to serve the community?
Monroe covers the St.Paul district on Mon-Fri before 6pm. After that it is covered by Volunteers (who work during the day). Volunteers also cover the weekend. I say get rid of the 5 districts and make it 1 for the whole town.
Have 1 ambulance at St.Paul and the 2nd at Ridge Culver and hire a full time EMT for each station to cover Mon-Fri day, and then volunteers for the night/weekends.
But it's all abot power and pride and ego- none of the cheifs/officer would be willing to give up what they got to make a unified Fire District.
Irondequoit residents need to be heard and tell them what they want and really need - a single coverage that will cost less.

You paint yourself in a corner if you think calling someone a liberal is an insult. Calling someone an idiot is insulting to us all. Grow up. Us liberals are proud of our liberalism. What brand of conservatism do you subscribe to?
