When I was transferred to The Cities in 1973, I announced it to my neighbors in Bismarck, ND.

One of these neighbors worked for then NW Bell which was indexed that is income was adjusted to the cost of living when transferred to a new location.

He guessed my income and asked their payroll what kind of an adjustment would be made if he were transferred to The Cities.$10,000 was the answer. My raise for my lateral move was generous but I lost money.
