We, the community, are in the drivers seat and in these tough and desperate economic times, could stand to profit from such a festival and I'm not just talking financially.
The sale of the property could be contingent on the "Monsoon Corp." supplying their own water (trucking it in) or supplying/purchasing bottled water locally, hiring locals first for all contracted labor, printing and placing a large cash bond in escrow for any possible damages to the enviorment, a community tax could be levied towards "Monsoon" for such a festival, a nature conservatory contract and hiring a large Security Force (all locals) could also be a contingency as well as improving our infrastructure such as road repair and even charging a $3 per person attending. We could even require them to build a 'tent' city to keep the masses to a minimum in our town. And believe me, that could be just the start of the "Red Tape" of hula hoops we could have them jumping through. As I see it, such a festival could pull our area out of the country's current depression and, if "Monsoon" fails to agree with any of the requirements, shut them out! From my understanding, the community commissioners and our elected officials have the right to either approve or deny a license for just such a gathering or festival or even put it up for a vote. As an unemployed member of this community (that has not and will not accept unemployment, food stamps, etc.,) and has been 'seriously' searching for employment for the past year, it's a tough predicament. With all due respect, The Devils Advocate |
