MT Guns
We Talked to the city today about having a public gun club in Hawarden, It sounds like a go if we can get enough interest and donations... The city will supply the land we just need the money to pay for a trap thrower and a underground bunker, rifle range and hand gun range back drops..... Anyone interested and thinks this would be a great thing in Hawarden post here... Spread the word!!!!!!

The First stray bullet that fly's out and the thing will be shut down...just like most of the rest of them...there's very limited control factor there...Of course when you work for the city it is apparently easier to get something insane like this pushed thru.

Not Complaining about Hawarden. Complaining about safety. If the are gonna do it it better be several miles outa town. A 3 of the gun clubs back home were shut down in the past several years due to stray bullets hitting houses. Sorry I feel it's a valid concern for my family's safety as well as the safety of the town residents. this site allows pro's and cons of all topix. Why is it when someone voices a Valid concern you automatically jump on them?

actually that apparently is what this individual forum is for...this site on other towns is full of information and event promotions. I have checked out many other topix pages for other towns and they are civil and professional...not like this shit hole forum.

Guns were put on this earth to Kill and they do. Can't we find something a little more constructive. Need to vent volunteer for Afganistan, they need it more than we do.

Still is dumbest idea ever! hawarden wont let a simple new restaurant in town but it will let a gun club in? really come on people look at how many time the bars/ other place have been broke into and all the homes vandalized really I have hawarden as a town could come up with somthing better to bring in then more guns may as well put this gun club right in may street since that just crumbing away why not bring something new bright back to main st before we let a bunch of board people play with guns. but I guess when the city doesnt leave there offices too see whats really going on around here its hard for them to see that a gun club in a small town is dumb!

I am not a gun owner, nor did I grow up around guns. A gun club is a place where individuals can bring their gun to shoot, for sport/competition, etc. I would much rather have a place where individuals can go to shoot for recreation/sport versus going out in the country, down by the river or a pit, etc. where there is greater risk of an accident occurring.

A gun club can't just be placed anywhere or near a residential area. Consider that it could be a place where gun safety could be taught/practiced, it could bring individuals into the community which could generate revenue for local businesses such as the local restaurants, quick stops, supply/hardware stores, etc.

While I don't promote guns, if my children ever approached me and wanted to learn how to use a gun to hunt or for sport, I would much rather they learn the proper way and have a designated location to do so versus the alternative.

Guns have been around for many years and they are not going away. Having a safe place to use them makes more sense than not having a safe place to use them.

A gun club wouldn't house guns, people bring their own.

I agree with mytwocents, "annoyed" needs to learn how to have proper grammar, and then maybe I will take more validity in their opinion. That doesn't exactly make Hawarden look intelligent, but that's beside the point. I would be all for the gun club. I also agree that having a gun club would create an environment for people like myself to take their guns to and have somewhere safe to shoot. Creating a safe environment by putting up a gun club seems to be much safer than some random place down by the river, etc. This also creates revenue, people fill up their gas tanks, eat at the Bistro or Pizza Ranch, go to Bomgaars for shells, etc. Revenue is a good thing the last time I checked and that's exactly what Hawarden needs if we don't want to be a dying town. GO MT GUNS!!! Behind you 110%!

Let me get this right... People are complaining about stray bullets? Hello, anyone considering a gun club, who would have to insure it would take all of the safety issues into account.

As a local business owner I would welcome a gun club in town. Of course I would welcome anything that would bring traffic in, even if it was adult entertainment.

Some people tend to forget that this is America, where if you can jump through all the regulations and red tape you can open anything you want and make a profit (if it fills a needed service in the market place).

As far as the City not letting restaurants in, the City does not have a say in what is done with property unless they have their hands in it. For example all of the real estate the City (or Development Committee) own. Get the City out of the real estate business and get involved in the political process and the expansion of Hawarden will not be hindered by people in the good old boy club.

The good news about a free market system is that if nobody uses the proposed gun club it will fold and fail, like other businesses in Hawarden have. However, on the other side of that coin if it is utilized, and generates a revenue with proper management it will benefit the whole community

'sure' seems like one of those cradle to the grave nanny state pukes that wants to protect everyone from themselves.

We should stop the Rides bus because it might hit someone... people are always getting hit by buses.

We should close all the schools because kids get bullied.

We should get rid of the hospital and clinics because doctors kill more people accidentally than guns do every year.

'Sure', you have a bigger chance of a stray bullet hitting your house from a drive by shooting in Hawarden than you do from a gun range/club.

I am not totally apposed to this club..I just want to make sure it's far out of town and in a very Low populated area. The part that scares me its that the city has somehow decided it will donate the land to do this idea...well there isn't much large plots of land that the city owns way out in the country to do this at. So where are they looking to build this place at?
