I'm so sick of hearing about these anceint trolls causing fatal accidents. These old people should not be on the roads in the first place. States need to pace laws to prevent these idiots from driving after the age of 70.

I believe you should have to take retake the test like when you are 16 when you turn 70, and then every few years after that. They cause as many accidents as teenagers.

Iím equally tired of hearing about irresponsible teenagers and young adults causing death and destruction because they are too immature to realize that drag racing down a city streets might be dangerous! Perhaps we need to institute a law that prohibits any person from obtaining a driverís license before they are 30?

Youíre venom spewing rant only makes you sound like the idiot Lance. Truth is there are many elderly people who can drive, but I would support legislation that would require elderly drivers submit to driver exams periodically to make certain their motor and cognitive skills are still sufficiently intact to ensure their and the publicís safety.

The man was riding his bike east, the car that hit him was heading east. There is a small hill just west of where the man got hit. Really good chance the driver came over the hill and had the sun in his eyes.

Dont be so fast to blame it on the drivers age.

Well. Lance must know how to ccp his rantings. I see the same things said in this post as what he said in the one about the motorcyclist. Even spelled "Ancient" wrong in both rants. As for retesting, I believe older folks are subject to retesting the written at each license renewal. I'm also sure if they were to start having accidents, they would have to show their skills. However, most of these accidents involving older folks are probably their FIRST accident, and in many cases their first TICKET also. How many times do I see young folks driving down the road with a cell phone stuck in their ear? How about using their I pod, or whatever, or having their stereos cranked up so loud they couldn't even hear a siren if one was around? I very seldom see older folks on the cell phone, never hear their radios blasting, and never see them with head phones of any kind on. Perhaps we need to look at making all of them illegal. Then maybe teens could be safe like MOST older folks are. We really need to compare different age groups, I'd bet the oldies come out better than the teens. As for direction. Was this the first thing in the morning?? If not, then the sun shouldn't have had any impact on it.(I don't know, that's why I ask. East would have to have been in the early morning. CUL Lou

The story didn't say the time of the accident, but it was posted at 6:43 PM. It would have been a long time after anyone eastbound would have had the sun in his eyes.

It seems like if it were around 11 AM, the sun would have been high enough to not be a concern. CUL Lou

I wont play the blame game. I have never been on Borden road but I will assume its a two lane paved road with no shoulder . I know people do it but walking a dog while you ride your bike on a road is not very smart. Maybe the dog panicked and pulled the bike into the road. Maybe the driver was surprised by the bicyclist. I always wonder what happens in the last five second leading up to accidents like this. To say the driver of the car was driving like an idiot is pure speculation maybe he did nothing wrong . Maybe no one did anything wrong just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, its that simple.

It was my Uncle and I just find it all quite sad. He was a pretty cool guy. We'll miss him.

Don was like a dad to me- He took in our younger brothers when our mother died. The family always turned to him in times of crisis. Now we are without him. It is such a shock to loose him so suddenly. Such a tragedy.

The accident occured at approximately 9:30 a.m. Glare should not be a problem at this hour.

Hi:

I am sure they are nice people, but if you ride you bike on busy streets, you (the biker) take the risk and bear responsibility for that. If you walk your do along busy streets, you take the risk as well. If you ride your bike AND walk your dog on a 2 laner, it is twice the risk.

There are parks, and trails, and sidewalks, and many places to enjoy the outdoors.

WeBikeandWalkToo - but not on the roads...

When I crested the small rise just before where the accident happened the glare WAS an issue for me.

Maybe if you were a little less self centered you would volunteer to drive your dad or grandfather if they are older and need to get somewhere. Glad you are not my kid!!
