Why would the state of Michigan care? This meat doesn't stink any worse than Granholm years of service.

Much thanks to an alert DOT officer who was paying attention to their job and duties. This woman DOT officer may have saved many the headache of illness and possibly death to some person.

If that shipment was contaminated and things were thrown into the dumpster right from the truck Second Harvest Gleaners should have not gotten any of it. I hope they question if that was a good idea. I think Gleaners are taking food that is not good for people to eat but because people are poor they have no choice but to get their food from gleaners.

While Granholm is no good I don't see where your comparison makes any sense. I commend the guys at the weigh station for catching this

Sure makes you think twice about getting any food from the thrift places. I've got so I read the canned goods labels anywhere I buy and if I can tell it comes from China I won't buy it. I live in Florida and when I see Alliance Food Dist. from Coldwater (at the Sav-a-Lot stores) I put some confidence in them, but who knows. I bought some asparagus, that was shown "a producr of Peru", ate it and still alive and well.

Why would they send anything to Second Harvest if there was a fear of contamination to any of the food????

Why was this truck rented & why would anybody even think about shipping things like that? Did they purposely want to contaminate people? This is crazy..I really dont understand at all!?!?

Except for large stores like Wal-Mart, Meijer, Spartan, etc., many of the food trucks you see are "rented". That simply means that it is an owner-operator who hired himself out, they are using a trucking company for the logistics, or that they are leasing the equipment rather than spending the huge dollars to buy the semi. It's more common than you think - more "non-news" that just HAD to be printed.

I am just shocked that the weigh station was actually open. Over the last several months I have made weekly trips past there and have rarely seen it open.

""""" "QUOTE""If you're thinking of voting for either McCain or Obama, you better get used to it.

As America becomes more and more accepting of other cultures, these cultures bring with them different ways of doing things. The varying ways of handling food is but one thing we need to understand.

It's really no surprise that illegal's eat illegal food.

BOTH McCain and Obama want to grant these illegals amnesty. For the safety and well being of our children's food supply, please look at third parties. """END OF QUOTE""

Thank GOD for our State Police. Could this be another to kill or maim our people. GGod only knows what ewould have happened if a housewife fed some of tthat to her family. Also how many families might this stuff have put in the hospital or worse in the ground. I really appreciate the people who were alert and caught this truck. I just hope to God that other trucks did not get through.

I had no income for 6 months so I tried buying food from ANGEL FOOD some of their product was ok
but most was sub-standard especialy their meat.
meat looked fair but no mater how or how long you cook it, you couldnt chew it. the best you could hope for was to boil it to flavor soup
but even then at times the taste was bad like the meat was starting to spoil or was tainted with strange flavors. so we give up on food assistance and got buy the best we could.

This is no knock on Asian culture, but after spending time in S. Korea it is more than apparent that at least Koreans are very lax on how they handle food. Shops and restaurants would hang whole chickens in the window, all day and unrefrigerated.

After getting to know the locals I discovered that many S. Koreans take a once a year medication to eradicate intestinal parasites.

I don't suspect intentional malice on these people's part, just a different way of doing things... I guess.

It's time to stop trusting any product from China. First it is our toys, then it's toothpaste, then it's baby formula... now this sort of thing?

It's like a form of terrorism. "Here. Eat our cheap food and formula. You'll die, but you'll have saved $.50."

I just wonder who ran this state in the RED INK and then moved away after his term was up, ENGLER. He has caused alot of the problems in Michigan. Granholm is still fixing his big mess.

Each country or culture can have their way of handling things per their legal system. We need to respect that. It is just that law in the country has to be applied in that country regardless the nationality of the people. In this case, we won't criticize the culture of that nationality ( of the people who handled the delivery case). But he needs to follow the regulatioin of the United Stated or FDA. We should not blame the idea of allowing importing food from other countries: as long as the food are fully per FDA and handled per United States procedure.
