Teacher-contract talks don't point toward a crisis

There are 2 comments on the Star Tribune story from Nov 16, 2007, titled Teacher-contract talks don't point toward a crisis. In it, Star Tribune reports that:

“Probably the two things I have been most often told are that the relations between the parties to this point have been good”

With a state-imposed deadline for teacher contract settlements looming two months away, most Minnesota school boards still haven't reached agreement with their teachers. via Star Tribune

Come on people. Lets face it. Almost all of these "money" arguments are over health care costs and whom is going to pay for it.

When are we going to realize that this whole insurance thing is a giant scam anymore, and that we need to consider going back to really paying the doctor, the dentist and the hospital directly and for a realized value to their services. I would have thought that by now most of you would have realized that charging a patient $200 for a single dose of aspirin in the hospital is well over the marks of making a profit by "mark-up". If the grocery store marked up a can of beans by 2000%, you'd not buy it now would you?!!! The whole thing with this insurance business is making a "corporate profit", and has absolutely nothing at all to do with your life or welfare. I'm already on the job now a year and finding out that going in just recently for an issue with my foot is a "Pre-Existing Condition" and that I have to go to binding arbitration or something such to get it overturned. I have a better way. Lets just pull all that money I've been paying into this so-called insurance, and put it into a savings account. Then I can just pay a fair bill for when I need the services of a doctor or dentist.

I bet if we were to exclude insurance issues out of this contract, the thing would be cut in half if not more!
