I'm wondering what, specifically, it is that some of you claim to know. I check the courts and there have been no lawsuits filed against the school system or Hoover. I attend the school board meetings where anyone can address the board about problems they may have, yet no one ever speaks. Tonight there was a meeting about the search for a new superintendent, yet no one there said they wanted someone who was not like Jon Hoover. So, I am curious: What is it that Hoover didn't have a leg to stand on about? Where are all these lawsuits? What kids were messed with? Which wrong parents were threatened? Who are the alleged "band of bullies?"
Hoover has two sides to him, there were parents that came to the board meetings to bring up issues but beleave me he made them pay for doing it by taking it out on there children. Everyone in that building was Mr. Hoovers puppets, if they didn't do as he wanted they were forced to retire early or be fired. Why do you think Mr. Moorse went to Sunrise, he was forced and then asked to retire, wasn't his choose. And Tim Earl our bus mechanic, for 10 or more years , cameras put in the bus garage with our tax dollars that were suppost to go to buying more buses so he could try to get something on him to make him retire, guess what Tim was givin a choose retire or be fired. Hasn't anyone wondered why everyone is leaving? If you have kids in the middle school ask them if Mr. Hoover ever took them out of a class room and put them in a room by their selfs to do their work with out a teacher for weeks at a time. Oh shit was going to hit the fan just ask the school att. Mr.Roy Henley. Picked the wrong kid to play with. There were many other parents that were afraid to come forward because they knew their kids would pay the price. He liked the kids of his choice, I guess that's the best way to say it. Now Mr Starr's his main puppet he can still do what he wants if he gets him in middle school prinical possition. I'm glad to see him gone, wish the school board would let Moore pull his resignation, like he wants.

So, First Hand, let me ask you a few more questions. First, I am wondering about this bus mechanic who was given the choice to retire or be fired. You say cameras were placed in the bus garage to "try to get something on him to make him retire." Then, you say he was forced to retire or be fired. So, did the cameras get something on him? If not, why didn't he say "no" to the retire or get fired thing and contact the union? Also, if my child had been put in a room by herself for weeks at a time without a teacher, I would have loudly complained to the school board. Most normal parents would, I think. So, why hasn't anyone come forward about that, especially since Jon Hoover is done at the school Aug. 31? Have the parents of this "wrong kid to play with" or any other parents contacted an attorney? If so, who is it?

I can not speak for "Curious" but my children have been retaliated against because I had a legitimate teacher issue (absolute gross negligence) that was escalated to the Lakeland Principal. Instead of admitting error, the principal backed the poor performance of the teacher. When going up the chain, Mr. Hoover did nothing. We even discussed filing a grievance and Mr. Hoover confidently grinned and stating the School Board chooses to whether or not to hear grievances and they look to him as for direction. He further stated no grievance had ever been heard by the School Board. If that is not bullying, I don't know what is.

Going to the School Board is pointless. I requested time on the agenda and was awarded it. However, Mr. Hoover chose to not follow the agenda. I waited and waited and waited to be heard. Despite notifying the secretary that I was stepping out to use the restroom, Mr. Hoover promptly adjourned the meeting when I stepped out of the room. When I challenged him on it, Mr. Hoover smiled and said he thought I had gone home.

We are all entitled to our opinions and can agree to disagree. I am very thankful for whatever circumstances facilitated Mr. Hoover's "retirement".

I can say that i had an issue with a child being inapropiate with my child and now they have a new rule in the books because they had never had that happen before. However i was extremelly pissed when it happened because it was the day before valentines day and that kid still got to come to the party!! all the kid got was a slap on the hand. and that is what pissed me off I still refuse to talk to his mother.

At this point the bus machanic has not givin in and gave his resignation. And yes the parents of
wrong kid to mess with did get a attorney. Many parents were upset with what Hoover was doing, their were groups of parents meeting together to discuss what to do, phone calls to Civil Rights were made, and complaint forms from Lansing were being filled out by at less 6 parents at the meetings. He wasn't the nice guy most thought. He even went to the extent of filing no truspassing orders on students, for swearing and another high school boy beccause he was expelled so Hoover didn't want him to watch his brother play soocer.Alittle extreme I'd say. He didn't care about the kids it was all a control issue. As he would tell some of the parents "this is my school and when their in my school they will do what I say"

Parents ask your kids if they got in trouble, did they have to work with the janitor, sweep floors, empty garbages, wipe walls? Oh there is alot to learn about Hoover.

Tim Earl is a nice guy and dosen't deserve to be bullied by Hoover or Morden, Tim went above and beyond the call of duty, he would do sports trips when there wasn't enough drivers, he answers phones, he dispatches in the afternoons when everyone else leaves. last year he drove for project graduation (all nite trip) then drove the 8th graders to the Bridge for their fun day with Hoover, put in many hours over his 40 and was not payed anything extra, just got his 40hr. pay. Tim kept some of the oldest busses in the state on the road, he's not a slacker, he just wanted the new bus garage to be built his way to make his job safer and easier, but Hoover had to have things his way, and spend more of the Tax payers money, instead of saving. Like someone said Hoover made it very clear this is HIS school and he will do what he wants. I wonder if the board is aware of half the things he's done? in OUR school, like having the flyers taken off school property when someone he didn't like ran for school board, this guy wasn't a "yes Sir" kinda guy, he stood up for what he believed in and Hoover didn't want any one like that in his way.

doesn't anyone wonder why mr.hoover was "let go " from two other schools before ours? why harbor springs parents were "happy" to see him go? poor dr.P must be sickend to see what he did to our schools, since he left us enough money to get our schools by for many years. Why do we have to pay for our kids to play?why do we not offer drivers ed anymore? are sports more important then the ablility to drive? hoover sucked! this is e.r not hooverville.

Care to elaborate? Perhaps this should be aired before the public forums are held.

where kids come first should be where the all mighty $$$$ comes first. the ECP kids no longer have an aide on the bus and they will start riding the bus home with Elem. kids, these ECP kids are special needs children and range in age from two - five, what is Hoover thinking, would he want his grandson put in this position, but we have to save $$$$ for more important things. If he wouldn't of taken his raise last year there could of been an aide on the bus, and the kids could of had their own bus this year.

Is it a fact or a rumor that the body of the young girl that died in the car accident in Oct. 2007 was displayed in the Elk Rapids Gymnasium and all the kids had to walk by her? That one seems way out there.

I know of a boy from ERHS that was expelled for 3 days because he was caught passing a piece of paper with a racial joke on it.

The girls funeral was held in the Auditorium. There was a viewing, but it could be bypassed. It was not during school hours and was at the request of the girls family. Do you honestly beleive that "all the kids had to walk by" in the gymnasium???

That is why I asked the question. For clarification. The way it was presented to me was odd. Perhaps maybe not all the kids, but it seemed strange that it was at the school.

Sorry for the attitude. I am just amazed by some of the things people seem to believe here.

I am amazed about what people believe, too.

And, I can't believe some of the things I am learning about Elk Rapids and Antrim County.

Someone is going to make a lot of money on the movie.

I've heard of quite funerals being held in gymnasiums of schools. Often with a sudden death of a child, or a faculty member there is a huge turn out that a funeral home can not facilitate.
