Thank you public defender for helping to lessen safety to my family and encourage the behavior that contributes to violence.

You have taken your politics too far.

My guess is that the jackarses who get in trouble for open container violations are not out of town "professionals," as the guy contends.

Open container is "attempted or conspiracy to commit DUI".
It deserves punishment severe enough to deter it happening again. A "party weekend" is no excuse.

I'm a sober alcoholic since Nov.4th 1975 and can remember driving drunk while closing one eye to see the line on the road. I thought there was 2 lines,so by closing one eye,I could see the real line. I'm a survivor! I believe that alcohol and driving don't mix and offenses committed while using it should be punishable to the max. I think it would wake people up. Nobody wants to be sent to prison for killing someone while drunk. There's hope for every dope! AA works!

These triple fine zones are absurd! Can we say an armed gang is conspiring to take your money away?
62 people cited times $1000 =$62,000 (DBS--check my math, please!) Pretty good take for one day!

Jail for opening (not drinking. NOT drunk!)a beer by a person 21 years or older? Ridiculous!

With all due respect (if there is any at all)...go stuff yourself. I wonder what happened to you that makes you hate law and order so much. Stuffed in a garbage can in grade school? Taunted by people about weight?

Oh thank god for this wonderful defender of the constitution, or at least a defender of beach drunks. I would like to enjoy a cold one on the beach as much as a lot of people, but I'd rather enjoy the beach without drunk idiots, especially on the 4th.

No wonder lawers have such a horrible reputation.

BECKY JOHNSON: Absurd is right, they should be quadruple fines. If you managed to get away from the mall and strolled along the beach on a weekend night, you'd notice it's a hell of a lot more sane than 10+ years ago when the beaches were just a party spot and trash can for local and valley kooks alike.

This lawyer is contributing to ocean pollution. He must contribute his fees to ocean protection. And, he can contribute to help those displaced by those idiots he defends.

These triple-fine taxes need to come down. Now what will council do, try and pass another "911" tax to compensate?

JUNK YARD DOG WRITES: "Oh thank god for this wonderful defender of the constitution, or at least a defender of beach drunks."

BECKY: I think the open container law is ridiculous outside of a motor vehicle. There is a separate ordinance which criminalizes being drunk in public. I have no problem with that rule when properly enforced against people who are gravely disabled.

But here, not only is the PETTY "open container" ordinance strictly enforced, but each offender is fined ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS???? That's ridiculuous and leads to disrespect of all laws.

Boy those county leaders sure are qualified and knowlegeble aren't they? Isn't there a county attorney who could have been asked for his/her opinion? Oh yeah, the DA would occupy that position. Who failed to check this out before it was utilized?

Realist - this is a first...I agree with Becky Johnson. Don't you see the local government is just trying to hike up fines for various offenses just to backfill the huge budget hole created by their reckless spending on foolish projects and plush salaries/pensions?

Yeah! It's not fair. I always walk around on the beach and downtown with a bottle of vodka in my pocket. Hell, so what if I p-i-s-s myself. Sometimes I c-r-a-p myself too. It's my life and I'll do what I want. You can't tell me. F the police. Want to fight?
