Have a Fabulous 4th...

Enjoy the beautiful and wonderful state parks.

Next 4th of July they will be locked and barricaded due to our governor.

A total police lockdown due to fear of mexican gang punks. Time to deport ALL of them. No questions, no detention, just throw them on the train and off they go. America is for Americans. I want our country back.

Fireworks go off every night around here and I doubt anyone ever gets a ticket of any kind. We have one officer to patrol the whole area. They know what goes on but do nothing.

Nothing will be done on the 4th either. Same as in years past.

What time will the road closures occur? Seems like a big deterrent to the tourists who might want to come to Santa Cruz and enjoy the day - and a huge inconvenience to locals.

welcome to the "police state" of Santa Cruz .. you, yes YOU will spend millions of your tax dollars in overtime for these pr-cks to tell you not to drink a beer at the beach. It's truly pathetic, I would imagine the only other countries in the entire world with a similar type of ban are in the middle east.... and that's just because is banned altogether! The europeans or Autralians would laugh at us for this kind of Police control... and we accept it !
even on a "normal" week-end .. they run multiple "peace" officers looking for people sipping a beer .. last week on Seabright I couldn't believe my eyes watching them buzz all over the beach on those quad bikes ..

And so if state parks close? Who will take care of the beaches next 4th of July. Are you listening Sacramento? Closing the state parks is a hazard.

What is this with the road closures? Do we live in a police state? Those are public roads and the public should have access to them!

I'd think all the liberal neighbors up on 36th Ave in Live Oak would have collected enough bail to get the fireworks guy out of jail in time to put on their free firework show that every one there expects! PAR-TAY!

Dude, if guys like you didn't sip beers and huff on fatties all day and drive and cause public problems we wouldn't need barricades and cops! It's all your fault dude! Your screwed it for the rest of us!

Every year all you fun-lovin' Americans come & litter my house with firework debris, throw garbage in my driveway, puke on my front lawn, & yell and scream til 3am. How patriotic can you get? The cops stand around & watch. One told me he was there to check coolers, not to protect my property.

If all the losers from the Valley and several losers from Santa Cruz wouldn't be such idiots and cause all the problems the police wouldn't have to be so strict like they are now. I remember going to the wharf and enjoying the fireworks as a little girl and up until about 15 years ago that was all gone because of to many idiots intoxicated, creating fights, starting their own illegal fireworks show, etc. Who dirties our beaches? It sure isn't us? Who creates all the traffic jam? It sure isn't us? Whatever happened to Beach Street Revival? Same thing they shut it down because of too many idiots from the Valley. And for those of you who think they spend tax dollars over here you have to be kidding yourself..they pack their own lunches and dirty our beaches etc. I'm not saying don't come to Santa Cruz but please respect the beaches and respect our little town. PACK YOUR TRASH!!!!

We have the same thing in the Jade St Park area of Capitola. I don't mind the fireworks on the 4th, but they start lighting them off a week before and continue for about 2 weeks after the fourth. Enough already!

All they really need to do is control the alcohol and not the fireworks on the beaches.
There has never been a "major catastrophy" caused by fireworks on any beach in SC county. The beach is the safest place to light off fireworks. Scotts Valley is having their display at Sky Park. Just think what kind of fire an errant commercial firework could do to Scotts Valley! But they're going to do it anyway!
There was a brush fire near the Sea Scrape lodge a few years ago only because a drunken bunch of idiots shot bottle rockets towards the cliff.
I say control the alcohol and everyone can have a good time celebrating the birth of our Nation.
God Bless America!

(i don't know about you, but my car is parked for the weekend. if i can't get it on my bike, it's not happening...)

4th of July means avoid Ocean St. and the beach areas, yea, guess I will just stay home. Oh wait, my Napoleon apartment manager said anyone caught with fireworks on the property would be evicted because they are illegal! What the hell have we all turned into!!

I for one like the chain link look of the beaches this year! With the big spotlights, smoke from the fireworks, big crowds, it's gonna look great after dark! Grab your Kodak!

Daily Horoscope for December 21

Aquarius

Although you're still feeling sociable and outgoing, the Solstice brings the need for a little time to yourself now and then. It's time to temper your busy social life with some precious moments of solitude. Make sure you do, as this need is something important and life-enhancing. It will certainly recharge your inner batteries, which might be a little run down.
