I think that instead of banning dog breeds that are more aggressive maybe we need to look more at the people that own them.Any breed of dog can attack under certain conditions I have always owned large aggressive breeds and had children I educated myself and treated my animals with the love and respect all living creatures deserve.Animals always pay the price for human ignorance

Let's get it on a Florida state ballot and see what happens...sounds like a good bill.

To NOT ban these "dogs" is tantamount to saying that it's OK to keep a breed of animal that is capable of killing a human being, and that human beings living around the Pit Bull are not at risk for attack and mauling. This would, in my opinion make lawmakers share in responsibility if a person should be mauled or killed by an animal breed that has been deemed "safe" by the lawmakers themselves. I know that if this issue had come up in MY community, and the lawmakers had bent to the wishes of the pit bull owners, and I was attacked by one, I would name all those who had voted against baning this breed as co-defendants in the lawsuit that I would definitely file.

In addition to my last comment, I relalize that most Pit Bull owners are unintelligent and are not homeowners, and have nothing to lose in a law suit. However if the lawmkers vote that pit bulls are safe, and if they themselves were liable for putting us at risk, then the poor victims of these attacks would at least get SOME monetary
compensation.

what a silly sweeping statement, actualy do OWN my own home and also have my pit covered on the insurance, also have posted several signs around my 6 FOOT fence........it truly is NOT the dogs they should be aiming at it is the IDIOT owners, sort them out and it would be just fine. oh and the yappy little ones are IMO the worse type of dogs in the world.......ban MINE and I will make sure that at some point fluffy gets on the same banned list.

Good post...I also believe that "most" Pit Bull owners have nothing to lose, no insurance... not responsible for anything of value.
You have a twist that I have never heard before. Sounds good but think it might be a stretch to sue lawmakers and win.
Pit Bull owners, remember I said "most", not all.

I think you should have to have a license to own most dogs just as you have to be licensed to own other dangerous animals. You should have to take a course, pay a fee, and have the city inspect your property to verify proper housing of such animals.

so ban pomeranians..they have mauled and killed infants..ban black labs..they have killed multiple people..ban mixed breeds because they have killed..get the logic? any bree is capable of and has maimed and killed.

by the way, i am a pitbull owner and i am college educated and not only own my own home but i own it outright with no mortgage. you are the uneducated twit.

I personally dont like them, but if you give the government a chance to tell you what kinds of dogs you can and can not own, whats next? I dont want the government taking away ANY of my (or anyone else's) choices.

well said ash, my point in the past has been, so once they remove all the pitts, then the german shepards, then the dobermans, then etc they will end up with fluffy as the only dog bites being reported will be those, so they will be seen as the killer dogs..........ANY dog can be nasty it is the OWNERS.

This article was posted on March 19. Every time it comes back up it dramatizes some individual's agenda. You are on target though, don't give up any of your rights without a fight. Your government is already closer to a dictatorship that the average person realizes. Your government doesn't want you to think, just pay up and do as you are told.

Ban the breed and educate people.

People don't realize that owning that type or breed of animal puts you and anyone else at risk.

You can argue all you want..but the breed is fundamentally dangerous.

Most pit bulls donít bite anyone but they have a statistically higher probability of doing so than most other breeds.

oh well each to their own of course but I WILL defend my pit to the bitter end no matter what but also as a responsible owner I ensure that YOU job public does not come in contact with her, now all I can aim to is stop the little yappy POS's down the road that are running loose ALL the time and run in a pack but of course they are small and yappy so they are ok right !

Pit Bulls are menaces and should be shot dead. They're are plenty of loving non violent dogs out there but pits should be banned. Time and time again these animals snap and kill small children, other pets or injure their owners. The time is now to take a stand and put these things out to pasture. If any stray pits come in my yard they will enjoy some poisoned meat. Any other dog will get chicken off the grille.
The man. The legend. The truth.
you should be banned as well.

Typical white man, rather than face the truth you would rather silence it. It's a shame cause I'm just getting started.

I like it when a pitbull walks out into the street when im driving. A few have been unlucky enough to meet the front of my car... hahaha

Also, if i see a stray one in the neighborhood it's history.
