La. judge resigns after flap over interracial wedding

At least four times in the last 2 1/2 years, Keith Bardwell says he refused to marry interracial couples while serving as a Louisiana justice of the peace.

I agree with the judge. I'm not racist - but believe different races shouldn't pro-create. We're becoming a bunch of "mutts". If this continues - at some point there won't be a distinction between blacks and whites as we will all meld together. Any original heritages we have will be lost forever.

I'm glad the guy resigned, but do they really need to sue him now? Someone hurt your feelings, fine, now he lost his job over it. Stop trying to get money, you ended up getting married, it's over, let it be.

This guy is not and never was a Judge, as the headlines blared. He was a justice of the peace only; who knows what he had to know to get that title. Probably pay something to someone. Thank goodness Louisiana got rid of him. But, please do not call a Justice of the Peace a judge. It only serves to confuse the public about the judicial system.

"He said from his experience and discussions, he had concluded that blacks and whites do not readily accept offspring of such relationships, so the children end up suffering."
Sounds like the judge cares more about your child's future than you do.

Would you care to explain just exactly how one old cracker of a judge who decided to play God without realizing, as several other posters have noted here, there is no such thing as a pure race or ethnic group of people, that people of all different shapes, sizes, colors, from all the four corners of the world have intermarried, interfornucated and produced offspring for tens of thousands of years cares more about my kid the I do? My daughters future will be in her hands, not some old fart who sits on the bench and still thinks we should have Jim Crow laws. It's too late, we are already "mutts." No one is 100% pure anymore. Trace your family tree, you will find mixed heritage somewhere on there.

Well if you believe in "pureness" and retention of heritage then what are you doing in this country? Shouldn't you go back to the country that your ancestors came from?

And why is it your business as to whom someone else marries? Did you chose your spouse or was your spouse imposed on you by your parents? It surely sounds like you don't believe in love and commitment since you insist on a particular race as a criteria. How sad for you.

The bottom line is that you have no say in other people's choice of a spouse. I'm sure that sticks in your craw but that's reality.
