1 Injured prisoner had series of clashes in arrest process By ROY PITCHFORD Advocate Westside bureau Published: Jan 12, 2008 - Page: 5B PORT ALLEN — Stacey Lee Paul suffered a broken jaw when struck by West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Stacey Batts at the Parish Prison on Dec. 17, according to a Port Allen Police Department report. As a result of the incident, Batts was arrested and booked with battery and malfeasance, then fired, West Baton Rouge Sheriff Mike Cazes said. The Port Allen police report goes on to say that the 37-year-old Paul, of Port Allen, twice struggled with police officers before he was taken to the Parish Prison for booking. Officer Jeremy Thompson was sent to a hospital for treatment of a broken kneecap. Thompson has been unable to work since the incident, but Police Chief Harry Brown said the officer plans to return to his job within a few days. According to the incident report, the series of clashes began when Officer Ben Arceneaux was called to a daiquiri bar to investigate a complaint that someone had stolen a jar containing $120 in tips that patrons had given employees. Arceneaux and Sgt. Ronald Kauffman said they looked at a security tape of the incident and determined that the jar was taken by Paul. A call on police radio instructed officers to arrest Paul. A short time later, Thompson reported that he had stopped Paul in front of the suspect’s house and was preparing to arrest him. Thompson later reported to police headquarters that he had been severely injured. He said Paul ran from him and the two struggled when Thompson caught up with Paul. Thompson said that as he tried to place handcuffs on Paul, the suspect continued to struggle and both fell. Thompson said he lay on top of Paul still trying to handcuff him, but was limited by his injury. Thompson said Paul managed to flee after somehow getting out of the jacket and shirt he was wearing. Police concentrated on getting an ambulance to take Thompson to the hospital, but once that was done, officers noted that someone had turned off the lights in Paul’s house. Paul’s father, the Rev. Joe Paul, answered the door, said his son was home and let police in, the report says. Police said Stacey Paul verbally challenged Sgt. Kauffman and Officer Ben Arceneaux and struggled with them until they were able to subdue and handcuff him. Paul was taken to police headquarters to complete paperwork, and then taken to the Parish Prison where he struggled with deputies in the booking room, receiving a broken jaw in the process, the report states. Paul was booked with battery of a police officer, resisting a police officer and theft. He remains in custody on a parole hold. |

I am a close friend and real co worker of Sgt. Batts. First of lets get a couple things straight for anyone who actually reads any of this cr*p! Casey is a good man and a even better cop. He is a great Sgt. and he took great care of his deputies that worked under him. He is very loyal and is a stand up man!
"Change" from Fl you are just mad because he pissed you off somehow and in someway. Oh well get over it you were a inmate and he was the officer. Second "Change" from Sc you ought to read and know all of the facts before you run your mouth about the situation. No the guy was not handcuffed and nor did Sgt. Batts hit him. There were alot of events that transpired in the whole incident and once the trial is over with you will have realized that your comments were out of line but most importantly your way of hurting this mans reputation. Next, Ex co worker of Batts I think dont even know him like you think, I think youare just another pissed of inmate who is posing as a ex cop. The reason I say this is because only a inmate would say that load of crap about him being a "Ring Leader", because if you knew him like we do you'd know he doesnt play like that. Actually they tried to say he had crack in his pocket but oh what was it again thats right "Sinus Medicine". Now lastly for concerned citizen you dont even know him because if if you were as close to him as you think you are you wouldnt have to ask questions"RJ" Nice try but you got the wrong guy this time. I know that for a fact! Ask me and I could tell you but theres nothing to say except I love my boy like a brother and I cant wait for that day in court when everyone has to eat there words! Batts we are behind you if you need anything we are here behind you! |

I didnt even know what i did wrong and i thought the cop was going to beat my head in after he was done screaming at me for supposedly crossing a double line.

1 Don't break the law and you won't get in deep shyt. If you are an inmate and get the crop kicked out of you by a cop...tooooooooo bad, dumbass Get a ticket for crossing the double line while in line on the on-ramp? Learn traffic rules. See? very simple |

Island Dude I wish there were more people like you. Finally someone who makes a little since instead of protecting a “crack head”.
I’m from the same small town as the Deputy and I know him personally. He is considered a friend of our family and many people who know him know what he is about and what he believes in. I have known him for all of the 27 years he has been in this world. Let me give you all a little background on this young man! 1st He is a very decorated soldier that served his country for 8 years and 2 out of the 6 years were spent in Iraq fighting for OUR country. 2nd He was a supervisor and if I’m not mistaken he was the training officer for the prison. 3rd He is a very opinionated young man who voices his opinion. What I mean is he is the kind of man that will say what he thinks no matter what. The same opinion you say to yourself or in a small group of friends because you are afraid of what people may say. And lastly I have read all of these comments and it seems to me that the only people that have a problem with him were the inmates and certain people within the Sheriffs Office. I think its chicken shit what they are doing to him and I know everyone I talk to is backing him. Also none of us were there and don’t know all of the story except for what’s in the papers or television which is 90% bullshit!. Casey we love you and are behind you 110%. |

1 Umm I've never heard of them actually inforcing these but my bf got one last week too in Port Allen. He drives for a living! Like you, he had no clue what he did wrong. He was trying to be extremely careful as traffic was really bad that day and he was in his company truck. Go pick on someone who actually deserves a ticket. These lazy bastards hit easy targets. I have called several times to get a price or talk to someone about fighting it but it seems they have IDIOTS working there and the traffic clerk only works part time as a student worker! I mean F#$K sake. I work closely with Law Enforcement on a daily basis,(No where near PA) and they have bigger fish to fry! Certainly no time for BS tickets handed down to honest hardworking people. Guess each parish does their own thing. Maybe that's wht WBR crime rate keeps skyrocking! |

After reading all of the statements written against the officier who is according to our laws innocent until proven quilty I want to say that it is important according to Bible teachings that we judge not according to the seeing of the eye,nor the hearing of the ear but judge righteous judgement. The Bible also teaches us that we ought to not over charge anyone. If indeed the officier maybe indirectly or even directly guilty of the allegations we ought to still act like a christian and render forgiveness to him.The Bible teaches us that Blessed are the peace makers,Blessed are the meek,Blessed are the poor in spirit,Love your enemies.Jesus also teaches that if we do not forgive our brother their tresspasses neither will the Lord forgive us our tresspass. In closing I must remind all the wolves in sheep clothing that Jesus said when you go to offer your alms before the alter and you know that your brother is ill with you leave your gift at the alter and go be reconciled with your brother then return unto the alters. Also remember we or no longer under the eye for eye, tooth for tooth. If your enemy hunger feed him,and if he smite you on one cheek turn him the other. That is the rule of being a christian.Stop hypocriting and stay out of God business.God said the battle is not yours but the Lord.Render not evil for evil.He said that Vengence belongs to him and he will repay said the Lord.Hope someone is helped from this inspired word.
