I love the way they put Anna Nicole Smith's death on the news for weeks, but an officer gives his life in the protection of others and gets one, maybe two days in the news. Where are society's priorities at?

I didn't say anything about those representing law enforcement not caring about the "criminal" and his family...I said that I don't. When first reading a story like this, I tend to focus on the victim and his/her family. While I do realize that this is a sad time for the "criminal's" family, I think that our thoughts should first go to the victim. By the way, I know what serve and protect means and whom it applies to. I also know what it means to be a law-abiding, non-violent member of society.

I shudder at the thought of someone who represents law enforcement not caring about a violent loss of life... It is horrible on both ends. People who have the capability to not care about someone dying violently, whatever the circumstances, should not be affiliated with law enforcement "serve and Protect" applies to all.
You should be proud a guy named "BigBillyBob" agrees with you. I assume you do not believe in the death penalty either?

Your exact words are "I couldnt care less about the other person and his family" and identified yourself as a close relative of law enforcement, so you made the association, not me. Again, I hate to hear about ANY senseless loss of life. Yes there is a time to kill, and If I ever had to defend my family or my own life (in that order) by taking another that would be a dreadful day for all parties involved. Both families have suffered a senseless loss, regardless of who was in the wrong. Doesnt matter who was right because no one is left.

Correct assumption. How do you teach people that killing will not be tolerated by killing in turn? What if you kill the wrong person?(it has been proven to happen) How can we call ourselves better than the "Third World" when we are the only world power that still engages in such activity? And dont even talk about costs, a death row inmate's time plus the appeals process adds up to about the same amount of money as it does to imprison for life. And there are not nearly enough death sentences to curb overcrowding, so thats no reason. Who gave the state the right to vengance? If someone hurt my family, Lord help them if I got my hands on them, but that still dont make it right.. If I do something to that person I will be prosecuted. How then do they have the right to do the same thing? Please counter these intelligently, if you can, and no personal attacks please.
So no the death penalty makes no sense (has nothing to do with the topic either) but you were right about that...

The other "person" had no right to shoot in the first place!

Well ignorance must be your blessing or you are a cop hiding behind the badge. Go read a few newspapers and quit sitting on your brain. Sounds like if brains were gasoline you wouldn't have enough to run a piss-ants go-cart around the inside of a doughnut. Now since you wished bad stuff to happen to me should I belittle you some more?

he shot a 13 year old girl that was inside a mobile home, by accident. her mother was just shot in front of her, by her live in boyfriend, and the little girl was next, they got the call and was fired upon arrival they protected themselves and probably saved that girls life..also killed the killer of the little girls mother and she got shot in the process, get your facts straight before you judge, the other which there is only 2 before his killer, had pointed a gun at him, it was his life or a criminal's life, which one. so idiots like you need to read more.

I choose to ignore the comments of those who live in an idealistic world. "What about the family of the bad guy?" I for one don't care. Victim's rights get ignored too often by idealists. The Deputy put your life in front of his for years. You who care so greatly for the bad guy should be forced to walk a mile in a cop's shoes. You'd change your tune, thank the thin blue line, and shut your mouth about things you know nothing about!

i just realized how sick people are? for one, my brother did not shoot a thirteen year old girl, and he did not shoot a boy named---? had the man not killed the girls mother, and then shoot at the cops, no fire would be exchanged, had the boy named---? stop and not ran and produce violence,? then the laws that they learned in grade school, would of hauted them,,, but because, people forget how to treat people, we live like animals,"kill or be killed" what a wonderful world

it is no surprise to me that people think the way they do. look at the goverment??? my brother would of given his life, "witch", he did, but to protect the people in this so called world, that we have to "strugle" to live in. i should of went before him?? his and hers have lost the best thing they could of done for this life time??? people, pledeeeed for their kids, who are, misguided.but don,t know how to take care of them,?why????? g-o-v-e-r-m-e-n-t? that is what the world is built o n"""" "????????
