all officers that are killed in the line on duty are not always in the right remember the other person died as well his family need your prayers.

As the wife and daughter of law enforcement officers, I couldn't care less about "the other person...and his family..."

What a crock! The "other person" fired at the deputy first, AFTER a chase. He got exactly what he deserved. His family failed raising him, so they shouldn't be too surprised by the way his life ended.

This should be the top story instead of buried in the routine news of the day. A deputy has tragically lost his life serving and protecting the community. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Glad the idiot is dead but we should not judge his family. They may have tried but this clown was too hard headed to listen.

I shudder at the thought of someone who represents law enforcement not caring about a violent loss of life... It is horrible on both ends. People who have the capability to not care about someone dying violently, whatever the circumstances, should not be affiliated with law enforcement "serve and Protect" applies to all.

Whatever! How many of your family members are currently serving time? This brave officer died doing his job. I doubt very seriously he was in the wrong.

"Terry Lee Brooks of Inman fired at Carper, who returned fire."

Officer Carper stopped Brooks for an expired tag!
Had he beena law abiding citizen rather than a CAREER criminal, I do not think a shoot out would have happened.

Also, the law enforcement officers are trying to understand how this Brooks continually got out of
jail for serious offenses.

Officer Carper was a brave person to stop this person and go on a pursuit. My heart goes out to
the family and officers everywhere.

I didn't say anything about those representing law enforcement not caring about the "criminal" and his family...I said that I don't. When first reading a story like this, I tend to focus on the victim and his/her family. While I do realize that this is a sad time for the "criminal's" family, I think that our thoughts should first go to the victim. By the way, I know what serve and protect means and whom it applies to. I also know what it means to be a law-abiding, non-violent member of society.

The other person had a choice, and his choice took two lives.
