Unwanted pets get taken for a ride to keep them alive

There are 1 comment on the The Greenville News story from Jan 25, 2008, titled Unwanted pets get taken for a ride to keep them alive. In it, The Greenville News reports that:

“We do a run sheet, which has where each animal is going, and we break it down to an hour-long drive for each volunteer”

Most Saturday mornings, Audra Omer of Inman can be found in a parking lot somewhere in Spartanburg, surrounded by dogs, cats and other furry critters and a handful of volunteer drivers from across the Upstate. via The Greenville News

In Anderson Co. alone, we have about 8,000 unwanted dogs and cats euthanized (killed) each year!

This type of thing goes on throughout the whoe State of SC, and it should be not only unsatisfactory, but it should be a horror to every citizen of SC.

We need to establish a low-cost, affordable spay/neuter program for pets, as well as educating South Carolinians, from childhood, in the topics of responsible pet ownership.

Spay/Neuter & Release programs for cats work extremely well to control the epidemic multiplication of stray cats in an area. It is more humane than simply killing them, and the have an opportunity to live a more natural, longer life.

If elected to SC State Senate 4 ( www.ortizforsenate.org ) I plan to fight for better programs for animal welfare in SC.
