A California court of appeal recently affirmed a $2.7-million judgment awarded to retired Hall of Fame jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. against the ambulance company that handled the injuries that ultimately ended his career.
A panel of three judges in the California Court of Appeal Second District on March 30 unanimously affirmed a 2007 lower-court judgment against Huntington Ambulance Service, which treated Pincay immediately after the jockey was injured in a race at Santa Anita Park on March 1, 2003.
“He’s delighted to finally get it over,” said Pincay’s Los Angeles-based attorney, Neil Papiano.“I think it is well deserved; after all, he was the leading rider in the world … and wanted to get above 10,000 (lifetime victories). The ambulance people didn’t follow what they should have done.”
