I know that this website may not be the proper place to voice this concern, but i really want to get the word out. Has anyone heard about the Fiscal Court of martin county voting not to renew the lease for the Highlands After Hours Clinic on new route 3? Because last week that happened. Three of the magistrates (Gretta Ward, Same Whitt, and Glen Ray Maynard) all voted not to renew the lease. So, they basically said that they wanted to limit the options that people in maritn county have for health care. This is wrong! Why in their right minds would they voted against this measure? It doesn't make sense. I for one have had a very good experience with the clinic and think it's a great place. Plus, I hear they have a very well respected pediatrician. If anyone takes the time to read this, please call your magistrate, whether they voted yes or no and call Judge Callaham and tell them that you want to see this clinic stay open. Martin Countians don't have alot of options for good health care whenever the locals doctors close and go home for the day. This clinic is a valuable resource, and we need it.

I would also like to inquire about why the particular magistrates that i stated above voted "NO" on this. What is their reasoning? Does anyone know?

I for one do not care to much for the after hours clinic. the past few times that i have taken my son there, they said that they could not do anything for me to take him to the ER. now the first time i took him he had a gash on his head, when i took him there they said that they could not do anything, so i took him to the ER, you know what the ER done, took that kind of glue and glued it together. was that so hard why could't the after hours do that. i had to drive way out of the way for that. when all they had to do was glue it. so for me i do not care if they close it down. they cannot do anything any ways.

I travel from Johnson County all the time to the clinic. This is my situation-incase anyone cares. I have a form of arthritis that requires me to take Enbrel shots. This is to supress my immune system which is confused and attacking my own body. So, every person I come in contact with that is sick and contagious I catch what they have. And since I work in the school system I come in contact with lots of germs. Most days I can go to work feeling somewhat sick and then drive to the clinic to get antibotic, tamiflu pack, or a z-pack. And the purpose behind this-is to not miss work. Somedays I wonder why I even
try. I am only in my 30's and must con't trying because I have two children. This clinic has been a God send for my children and myself.
Why take something away that is worthwhile and serving a purpose for working class people.

the way i understand it, is the clinic wanted to renew there contract but for less money and they wanted to change the hours and only be open after hours at their convenience..the way i see it is, if its gonna be an after hours clinic then they should be open after hours, we dont need another 9 to 5 place around here..now i have had to go there a few times for my son, and like i think 4 out of 5 ppl was referred to the ER once just for stitches...now u tell me, isnt that what an after hours clinic should be?? for simple little things like that after normal business hours...so i think my magistrate Gretta Ward made a good call on this one...
very good place

well the after hours clinic has been a god sent for me since i have 4 kids it seems like they start getting sick after school when they do and that really saves me a lot of time and travel so no i dont think my magistrate gretta ward made a good call some of us really need that clinic so they need to think about that instead of their selfs

Well, i think some people are sonfusing the after hours clinic for an Emergency Room. It isn't an emergency room, its a clinic. Its purpose doesn't have anything to do with emergency services. However, i don't see why they can't give somone stitches. They should be able to do that. But my point is that for many people the clinic has helped. So, why not keep it opened and maybe they would be able to extend their services. Plus, i don't think they wanted to be open less, i think they wanted to extend their hours to be open more. Like opn saturdays.
Not only this, but the magistrates voting against the clinic is only going to cause the county to lose the lease money and the money that would've been generated from the Bluegrass Clinic that was going to lease the middle section of the building. But now, highlands has to give it's OK for that to take place, and i bet they don't do it. The 3 magistrates who voted "no" didn't do anything but cut the people of martin county out of health care and money that could've been used for things we need like better roads, police protection and better fire departments.

I think that the magistrates that voted to get rid of the after hours clinic should never get another vote from anyone in this county. We don't have much of a choice for doctors already. You can sit all day trying to get to see one of the already over worked doctors. The clinic wasn't trying to put the local doctors out of business, they were just taking up the slack after hours. I found them to be of great help to me and my family so thanks for nothing to those absent minded magistrates I hope they get voted out next time.

you know your statements are totally untrue. i can read and i would hope so can you, and if it's true that you visit the clinic then you know what you've said is so off base. you take someone who puts others before herself, and you want to downgrade her, your not a very bright person are you? if she just turned around twice she did more for the people than he ever did, and why is it you find it necessary to smear your sh_t, haven't you heard the more you stir the worse the stink is for you?
