Ok this is bull sh*t. He isn't sending his kids anywhere. They are attending Martin County Schools. You are rig though about his salary......somewhere in the area of $75,000 per year.

Even if it is true, so? SCHS is a terrible school. As a matter of fact, in terms of scores, Johnson county schools are awful, and are still miles ahead of schs. I'd not blame him if he did.

You are correct. He moved to Van Lear,(Johnson County) and his daughter does go to Johnson Central. It is our tax dollars paying him a huge salary while our county and schools are not good enough for his family. Maybe he will follow his daughter to Johnson Central. WE CAN ONLY HOPE!

Is it really anyone's business where someone decides to send their children to school? Besides if that is the school district they live in whats wrong with it? That is where they are supposed to go.

He is a public worker, but he is also a private citizen. He can do whatever the hell he wants to with his paycheck for the job and services provides. If the money he made had to go back into the school system, your complaint might have merit. But this is his personal pay check we are talking about, not the schools paycheck.

That's like telling a cop he can't spend his money how he wants and must use it to pay for local city cop stuff.

Seems to me the outrage would be his salary if the amount quoted is correct. Why would a coach be worth more than any other teacher? Because we live in Martin county. We produce NBA, and NFL stars left and right, so it seems only right we pay a coach the big bucks. Soc is correct, it is his money. I would send my kids to another school district if I had children of school age. None of us would want someone telling us where we had to live, or spend our money.

All I know is that last spring when the Martin County school system was supposed to be in financial trouble, some passed around a list of salaries made by all employees of the school system. His salary was around $75,000 which made him the highest paid coach and teacher in the County. In fact the only person at SCHS that made ore money was the head principal and it wasn't by much. I work at SCHS and I have seen his oldest daughter there for the past couple of days. As for his other children, I don't know. I know that the girls coach, Darren Rice, who also makes big bucks, at least brings his son over to SCHS. This is something that needs to be looked into. Maybe the sports God of Martin County, Ronnie Hickman, needs to look into this. Nah......he thinks Spurlock is the savior of the world.

I'm not a teacher but a classified worker and they don't pay us nothing. I'm just working for the insurance. Teacher pays is below the state average too. If you want to make big money in the Martin Cunty school system, you have too coach boys or girls basketball or football. The other coaches don't make squat. Now, if you want the big money, you need to work at the BOE. According to the paper that was passed around last spring, Mark Blackburn and his wife together make almost $200,000 per year. The average pay at the BOE is $85,000. In fact, Blackburns personal secretary makes more than a beginning teacher. I can't blame them though. I mean, the people of Martin County are letting them by with it.

I was talking about the people who work there. Technically the ELECTED board members don't make any money but, there are....and again according to the salary list passed around last spring, there are at least 6 people who hold so,e type of position there that make over $85000 per year.

And, the Board pays somewhere around $90000 per year to lease the first and second floor of the Martin County Business center. Now you know what schools don't have supplies and kids don't have textbooks.
