Affordacare pet hospital on SE 14th. In Des Moines turned away suffering dying pet so doctor can go home and have a life...
Does this sound plain wrong to anybody else? This happened the other day at Affordacare pet hospital on SE 14th. In Des Moines, Iowa
I walked in during regular posted hours with my best friend Buddy a rat terrier who we were sure was dying from kidney failure and I told them that. I wanted to have him put to sleep to end his suffering. They refused to even look at him saying they couldn't possibly get to it tonight and to either bring him back tomorrow and they would put him to sleep then to end his agony. Or they told us to drive him across town to their sister clinic that they knew full well had closed 3 hours earlier. They said they had to draw the line somewhere and they drew that line at my suffering dying dog. They refused to end his pain and suffering so the doctor could go home and have a life away from work. It that something a doctor would ever say to a dying patient? Basically telling us that my pets pain and suffering would have to continue for another 12 hours so the doctor could go home and eat and watch some TV. And they said I needed an appointment. They actually said I should have made an appointment to bring in my dying dog to be put to sleep on their schedule not the condition of the dog. That sounds immoral and unethical. What kind of doctor could walk away and refuse to put a sick suffering dying families pet to sleep to end its agony? Am I wrong to have expected better care from a doctor at a pet hospital? What else can I do to make sure they never do this to another pet? Just because they provide Des Moines a lower cost pet hospital shouldn't mean we have to accept sub standard care and unethical practice. Please get the word out about this place. A hospital and it's doctors should be held to the highest standards even a pet hospital and veterinarians. When you hold the power over life and death you have a moral responsibility to wield that power ethically and with great care. Letting any living creature suffer unbearable undue pain should be criminal especially if that suffering is caused by the direct inaction of the attending physician. But to them my little Buddy was just a dog but he was my best friend and I miss him everyday.
