No surprise. I just hope she pays her employees that she owes money to. If her history is any indication, I imagine those employees will never see their money. Heck, they will probably be sued by her for something!
Can we please get somebody in there that has some credibility and somewhat of an idea as to how to run a legit business?

How do you let the gold slip through your fingers? that place should have been a goldmine, everyone knows that. Hope someone decent opens a place there. Bears Lair was like a hellpit. Regulars have seen it all with the owner, many left out of disgust or being disrepected by her too many times and a few others would still go just because its so close to home, but after she falsely accused her bar manager and bouncer of physically threatening her and had them arrested almost a week later even those folks said theywould never go back completely sickened by that as a last straw. and how can she have no idea how bad her reputation has spread, not with recent events but had alreay spread. you just would mention the word bears lair anywhere you go and you get the same negative reaction mostly about the nasty behavior of the owner. SOMEONE PLEASE OPEN THIS PLACE AND DO IT RIGHT! WE WILL COME!

The location might be used for something better than a bar. The next bar there will be another "hell hole" under a different name.

My wife and I were estatic when the Bears Lair opened last year. To finally have a true sports bar in Indian Trail was going to be great and so close to the house was even better. Throw the pool tables in the mix and I might as well threw a tent up in the parking lot. We tried to support the bar for quite a while and told everyone to give it a shot. The food was really not that good when it opened but we continued to give it a chance hoping that place was on a learning curve and things would settle in. Certainly the food could not stay this bad, right? WRONG! And then the pool tables were a complete joke. Totally unlevel and the condition they were kept in was horrendous. Not to mention that the hourly charge for table time was the highest of any place in Charlotte! So I guessed that Teresa would have to reduce the rate to get players in there to play on those awful tables, right? WRONG!! So with the food and pool tables not supposed to draw people in she must have some killer drink specials, RIGHT??? WRONG AGAIN!! The one thing we failed to realize that the bar was going to be run by the devil herself. I really think she was trying to see how fast she could burn every bridge possible. With not paying the contractors that did work for her to not paying the bands that she hired to play on several different occasions. I guess she thought that these people would just sing her praises. Not the case. Bad news spreads faster than good news and boy did it spread and her numbers showed it. I became friends with several of the waitstaff in the Lair and I honestly dont see how any of them put up with Teresa for as long as they did. Espially Alli, and how was she repaid, with a lie told on her and her husband which got them both arrested! So then TJB decides to tell the rest of the staff(which are owed money) to take the weekend off and come back after Labor Day to reopen the store and for payment of all past due wages. Sounds like she is ready to make everything right. LOL WRONG!! I have to admit by this time things are really getting comical (for all those that are not involved). I can honestly say that I hope the best for what was left of the waitstaff and that I hope you get what is owed to you. As for Teresa and whoever else is in her corner, well I hope you get what you deserve to. LMFAO!!

I was so happy this day finally came! She screwed me out of some money a while back and we let it go knowing that someone like her would go down in flames. I still remember the first time I met her she stated "I'm not a greedy person" Hmmmm, still hard to believe that lie. I can't blame Robert for wanting out of that mess! Goldmine is right! That place could still be a Goldmine if someone honest could run it. This still has been a great day to hear this news and I hope they run her out of town, far far away!

I could have wrote this! We were regulars (once a week)only because it was so close. We were told that she had no restaurant experience what so ever...NO WAY!? would have bnever guessed!:) NO specials of any kind. Funny story (pathetic actually)....my wife and I were just hanging out for a couple of hours for dinner and drinks, when our waitress comes up to us and asks us for a cover charge (for the band) or we have to leave. She was so embarrassed that she had to tell us that and told us so. There was not a soul in the place when we got there and only two tables of people when we got hit up for cover...and this was after we spent quite a bit of money that night on food and drinks. We immediately left. Way to treat your regular paying customers lady! Final straw (although that should have been it) was when she jacked up all the prices of everything on the menu and the food was borderline spoiled. Never went back.
Here is hoping that somebody will open that place back up who is willing and knows how to run a sports restaurant. Have a little atmosphere in the place with good food and service... not just 'mail it in" as many do in the area.

Enough of the drama. Let's look forward to bigger and better things for Indian Trail.
I propose we start a campaign to get a true restaurant/ sports bar to open at the former Bears Lair locations. Such as Hickory Tavern, City Tavern , Fox and Hound.
If you agree I ask that you place contact these places or any others you can think of and ask them to consider Sun Valley.

The problem with another sports bar opening there is the same one the Bears Lair had. Not enough business to generate the kind of income to make it profitable. In the first place the rent is astronomical, something like $14,000 a month. No wonder Jacobs-Allen couldn't pay her help and stayed behind on her rent.

I managed a Buffalo Wild Wings Sports Bar IN Greenville, SC and I know what kind of location they look for. They do a detailed study of the demographics of an area before even considering establishing a a restaurant/bar there. The Sun Valley location would not make the grade and BWW Inc. didn't pay that much rent for the bar/restaurant I managed!

rent was 11,000/month. and that place could be killer! hickory tavern is packed all the time. no offense jack, but the only thing holding back BL from success was Teresa-Jacob Allen. customers were willing to overlook so much just because of its location. most people can see the opportunity to make a mint there, if done right, with the right leadership.

If that's the case why hasn't there been anyone stepping forward. It's been a month and it's a ghost town out there. Hickory Tavern caters to a different clientèle and the prices reflect that. If the Bear's Liar had charged H.T. Prices it would have closed even earlier. I know what I'm talking about!

If that is the case, then keep it closed. The Crossroads across the street seems very pleasant.

Windblown scraps of paper sail across the parking lot to join other bits of trash, dust and assorted debris t5rapped against the side of the building. The windows are streaked with dust and smudges from careless fingers removing what was once attached to them. The interior as seen through those windows is barren, lifeless and silent.

The smiles and laughter too are gone. I remember the Philly Cheese on Rye and the cold beer I last had there. I remember the laughing waitress who flirted with me and always got a big tip for it. I remember the angry man who sat at the counter and talked ugly to people who didn't care. I remember the couple in the corner looking into each others eyes and sensing that their hands under the cover of the table were engaged in more than just holding hands. I remember the big well dressed man who always came in at the same time and always ordered the same thing always asking for a take out box for his leftovers. I remember the nice couple who worried so much about their little dog out in the car that the wife made the husband go out and check on it every 5 minutes while they ate. I remember Marco singing to Teresa and her telling him he had a nice voice. I remember Mr. Freeman bringing in his own liquor because he was too cheap to by a drink. I remember a rainy night when it was crowded and raining so hard out that no one left until well past closing time.

Someone has written something on the side wall. I can't make it out. It's probably graffiti.

You are a very eloquent writer. Very nice assessment. I was not a fan of the place, but I did enjoy reading your thoughts.

I hear there is going to be a business moving into the former Bear's Liar soon. I hear it is not going to be a restaurant or bar.

You must have not went there in a while because she raised her prices to Hickory Tavern levels a few months before they went under. Menu changed, food got worse and the prices went up...bad combination.
