Are you kidding me? You are kidding yourself if you think there is a clean coal burning plant. If that plant comes to Rogers City it will ruin a town that has the ability to really be great.

Now, I thought you were suppose to be nice on here! Do you feel better saying what you said??? Have a nice day! Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And, there is no need to be a snot about it. Go back to the manners that were taught to you or don't you have any?

Where in the rules does it say I have to be nice? If it says I have to be nice somewhere in the Topix Manual, then I would also like for you to point out the section Tina, where it says you can't be stupid.

I would rather hear from people of Presque Isle county on this issue, Not people from other part of the country. Besides Clean and Cleanest meas to different thing,

I was born and raised in Rogers City and left at the age of 26 because the future was very glum from an employment standpoint. I'm now 48 years old, get back to Rogers once a year and am disgusted at the ghost town it's become. Most of my immediate family and relatives still live there and I hear nothing but moans and grown on how the founding fathers, and now the transient down stater who call Rogers home, have prevented industry from coming into the area over the years just so they can keep things plain and simple while they live out the rest of thier lives. It's time to move forward just a little and get some industry in the area that will encourage our youth to stay or maybe some of us that have left to come back to Rogers. I certainly don't want the area overrun to the point you can't anjoy all the beauty the area has to offer, just a little here and there to stop the bleeding so I, and others like me, have a town to come back to.

It is needed... and it is good there has been such a great debate. It will keep Wolverine honest.

RIR: Be careful running down people who have not lived in Rogers as long as your beloved family. Even your family came from somewhere else. Also, make sure you understand where your tax dollars come from. Those transients who have a second home, pay twice the tax money as your family and they dont even get to vote on county issues.

RIO: I obviously didn't spell out my intentions very well so I will try again. As long as I can remember certain families controlled the growth of Rogers City and whatever these families wanted, they got. For the past 15 years or so the certain families have been replaced by Down Stater Retiress (DSR) that have turned their vacation resindency into permanent residency. Their goal in life is to live out their retired years in God's country at the expense of four, five and six generation families. DSR has filled many of the local government positions and now have a retirement haven un-interupted by industry. If your from Rogers you would understand exactly what's been going on.

That makes it tough for certain types of growth but it sure is nice to have a solid tax base and a wealthy consumer group for the service industry in Rogers. It is part of the reason your city looks so nice compared to Onaway.

I appreciate where you're coming from RIO but both Onaway and Rogers are nothing like they used to be. It makes me sad to see absolutely no people or vehicles when I go through Onaway to get home, and after I arrive in Rogers I see store windows boarded up and hardly any people on main street and almost no vehicles. I truly hope some industry moves into the area, and I mean area in general as I'm still an avid supporter of Northern MI in general. Just a bit partial to the eastern side...lol

BTW, I would love to move back to the area but there is absolutley nothing there for me. I'm extremely home sick after being away for so many years and if there was a reasonable wage earning job in the area I'd give up everything to get back.

Well we need that coal plant for the entire NE corner of the LP. The amount of damage the plant will do to the environment is a pimple on an elephants rump compared to the pollution of bigger manufacturers in big cities. Not to mention the rest of the world. We need to grab us a piece of the pie while we have a chance. The prevailing west winds will blow the soot into Lake Huron and the waves will take it to Canada. BTW, nothing else will be coming to Rogers without the coal plant. Well... maybe a Walmart.

Well, one bright spot - The DSR will soon die off and we will be left with a geriatric population which needs to work in order to survive. Pretty soon, we will be saying "Retirement? Whats that?" If you can't work now to build a retirement, then you will work until the day you die.

Both RIO and YEAH are right on with both of their statements. To prove it out all you have to do is look around.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Scorpio

If you're feeling brave enough, you should get out all your receipts`, and then tot up how much you've spent this month. Or don't you have the courage to do so? It will be far better to know the truth than to pretend that everything's all right. But don't let it spoil what promises to be a delightfully enjoyable and rather emotional day.
