History of Ivanhoe, Va.

We will soon be relocating to this area and would like to find out more about the history of the community of Ivanhoe. Does anyone know of a good source? Maybe books or articles written on the subject?

Holy God, I hope you are not serious about relocating in Ivanhoe. Ivanhoe is a complete shithole that should be nuked from orbit. Could of been used to film Deliverance.

I assume you're talking about down town Ivanhoe. I'm not moving into downtown, although there are some interesting old structures . I've spent quite a bit of time around Ivanhoe over the past few years, and have yet to meet any assholes, just nice friendly people. If assholes exist, be fore warned, I invented assholeism and if not treated with the proper respect it will surface. Anyway, I think the area has a lot to offer with the New River and the trail, so maybe it's people with your attitude that holds the place back. By the way, do you think Ned Beatty had the hardest part?

Like your attitude and I agree with your perspective on the area. The Ivanhoe Civic League, which is located in one of the nice old buildings in town, loaned me a two volume history of Ivanhoe. The area is rich in cultural and natural history. I have not been able to acquire these volumes but would love to do so.

Just like with many small towns, Ivanhoe had a great heyday. I adore it up there...except when folks leave deer carcasses around.

Hell, they do that everywhere. I don't like it one bit, but one time I talked to a Game Warden...Conservation Policeman, as they're called now for some reason, and was told that the scavengers cleaned them up. This was in Smyth county, but that seems the attitude everywhere.

Both are out of print. Hard to find. Might be able to get via inter-library loan. VT library has copies

Me too....I hope we didn't order the same one. Confirmation says mine shipped today 2/6. I order from Amazon all the time....don't know why I didn't think of it before. Good luck...and I hope we learn a lot!
