I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT BELIEVE the man that was shot when he was trying to commit an armed robbery at Ken's coin shop just walked out the hospital door today. How in the h*ll did this happen? Why didn't the people in charge of this fricking city have some sort of guard outside that criminal's door?Anyone with an ounce of brains and NO law enforcement experience should know it's not the hospital's job to guard OUR criminal. Why did Safety Director Cowan and Police Chief Smith let them happen? Are they going to put a watch on Ken's house until we spend tons of money to catch that robber and put him back in jail or are they going to sit on their a**es just like they were doing when the creep walked out of the hospital, so he can show up at Ken's place and take revenge? Shame on the people we pay to protect us and shame on the people who don't hire people competent enough to do their job right.I'm totally p*ssed.

I would be surprised if Anderson is ever caught, his half brother Nathan Castorena went on the run from Montgomery County in 2005 and has not been caught yet.

Let's face it, if there had been an armed guard at the Wichita hospital everyone would be bitching about the thousands of dollars spent guarding the piece of crap. You all just like to bitch because you don't have a job, are worthless.pieces of crap, or just aren't smart enough to do anything with your lives. You are worse than a pack of backwoods neanderthals.

I'd rather spend thousands of dollars guarding that piece of crap in the hospital and then throwing his worthles a** in jail than having that piece of crap come back here and seek vengence on a man who should have been protected from him by police. Our police heads must have thought that guy was going to walk out of the hospital and drive back to here so they could arrest him. Talk about useless.

Question, was the hospital out of town? If so, then it would have been up to the authorities in that jurisdiction, not Independence to make sure this person did not escape.

Did this really happen? I usually don't waste the .50 for an independence reporter, usually nothing worth reading! If true, I would have to speculate that there is some "inside" work happening. This criminal had to have known nobody was watching, and would have had to have clothes and a ride waiting, right? Maybe one of our "great Indy officers" screwed up the investigation n needed a cover? There has to be more to the story!!?

It wasn't up to the people of Wichita to pay one of their policemen to watch our criminal. He was our criminal so the expense and responsibility of guarding him was ours.

This was on the front page of last night's paper. The Wichita hospital said it didn't know when he left and it wasn't the hospital's job to guard him. Guess they thought that was the job of people who wear guns, like someone from our police department.

The issue is that if a prisoner is in your custody, you are the one liable for the prisoners medical bills. I would imagine that the bill for several surguries to repair gunshot wounds would run several thousand dollars.
