Every year, since the early 1990's the voters of Independence have got it wrong when voting for city commissioners, and as a result, the city has made a rapid downward spiral that continues to so with no end in sight.

2 local residents, Ned Stichman and Leonhard Caflisch have both confirmed they are filing to run in 2013 for 2 open seats on the city commission.

Both are lifelong residents of Independence, both have worked here and are respected members of our community.

Both have worked on countless community projects together and would work well together on the commission as they both have insight as to what the past of Independence has been, and how to introduce improvement to the city and know where it is needed.

It would be useless to elect one, without the other, because chances are, you would either wind up with a rubber stamp or a stalemate as we have witnessed for far too many years.

Voters, do yourselves and Independence a favor, Save our City, Support Stichman and Caflisch in the next city election for City Commission.

They couldn't be worse than what we've put up with the last 10 years.

You can assume it is a vendetta, but they are both individually proven leaders, together they can do what has been needed to be done for years, and that's lead with integrity and honor, yes Micky might be on a fast track to departure, but that shouldn't surprise anyone, he has earned that departure, sometimes heads must roll per-say to make a change for the better.

So what if they have personal reasons?? That is a GOOOD thing. Someone(s) need to be personal in management. You have to make hard choices and so far that is not been the case. You my friend are one of or related to current city comish!!!!

I call BS. Two of the current commissioners ran for personal reasons. They are trying to advance their real estate careers. This town does not need any more real estate. Can,t afford itand don't want it.
Not sure Stichman and Caflish are the answer either.

I beloeve Stichman and Caflisch would be the exception voting them both in together, neither Ned, who is now retired, nor Leonhard who couldnt do any archetectural work for the city while a commissioner would have any monetary gain. The advantage would be that they both have a lot of similar goals and thoughts and would be able to work together without being influienced by the city manager. They would be able to pass and create, or overhaul restrictive policies that are holding back the city from being able to grow. I see no special intrests that would influience them to do anything but work for the better of all residents.

Before Mickey came here people felt like they could go to their city leaders and ask questions and get help.Instead of the commissioners standing up for the people who elected them they stand up for Mickey, flip us the bird, and treat us like we're nothing. We can't do anything but sit by while one bad expensive and wasteful decision after another is made. They won't even answer questions for us.We need people who will listen to us, answer us, and REPRESENT US NOT MICKEY.Think Ned and Leonhard would represent us instead of Mickey that should give us some say in what's going on and should point the city in some productive directions instead of all the destructive ones that we've had to put up with since Mickey came on the scene. We need a leader not a destructive dictator who's done nothing except cost us money and turned our commissioners against us.

Sounds like you have it all figured out, except that once elected they can't work together to figure things out except in open meetings. the two of them could not even conduct discussions about city business between themselves without being in violation of the Kansas Open Meetings Act. no different than the current or past commssions.

Thats just it, they would work together in the open regulary scheduled meetings just fine, an open discussion between all 3 commissioners in a open meeting is completly ok. As it is now, Micky goes to each of the 3, and the 3 current say very little in the open meetings, and the public is not allowed to say much.

maybe you need to get a little more involved. mickey has rigged things up so leonhard doesn't get any work from the city anyway.he uses heckman and trans-systems which have always screwed things up but which micky can control.not right but thats crooked government by crooked mickey allowed by stupid commissioners. heard tim white is trying to recruit someone to run but we don't need another big-spending dope like him on the board.

One advantage of a Stichman/Caflsch vote is tha there would be an entirely new point of view, much needed to get in there and unscrew the screwups that continue to happen time after time.

They both seem like really nice guys! You see the City giving both of them a bum rap ... and yet they both seem to be so positive about the changes that could help Independence! They never talk about how they are out to get someone, instead they always look for a way to solve the problems of Independence. Come on City lets not have another day go by without supporting these fellows.

OK..Questions that need to be asked to anyone running for city commissioner.
1. Why do you feel you are qualified for this position?
2. What can you offer, that will make this city better?
3. Do you have any specific adgenda you want to pursue as city commissioner?
4. How do you see this city in 5 years?
5. What experiences do you have that you feel you can use as city commissioner?

Now these two, have had some differences with the city. One, I could not support at all, the other, might be OK, depending on his truthful answers to the questions above.

I'm sure there are other good people out there who would also make good leaders.

These are good questions but I want to know if all canidates through out the years have had to answer them! What is the goal of the City Manager, that should be the question! The commisioners do not just plow up a senariaro! They act on what is brought to them right? Maybe I am wrong but it sounds like some don't even have a open mind to change.

I am sure there are good people all over the city, but finding a majority to sit on the commission with similar views that would be beneficial to the city as a whole, without preferential treatment given to certian individuals is rare.

These 2 gentlemen individually want the best for Independence, together they would make a majority that could cut through the red tape and roadblocks thrown into place by previous small minded leaders to prevent growth.

We have always had a majority that worked hard at making sure the haves keep on having, and the have-nots continue to have even less, isn't it time we elect a commission that will turn that way of thinking around, and do what's right for everyone?

the citzens know he is not afraid to speak his mind and stand up for what is right he spoke openly at the Commission meeting and questioned the way that they handled the bids. The same with Ned and he questioned the way that the City handled that situation and called them on it.
