What would you do

Meade, KS

#1 Feb 4, 2013
I took my child to an eye appointment. It took over an hour for the doctor to see my kid. Which is usual, I know. But, when I got home I noticed that the doctor had made numerous Facebook posts during that same hour.(Through 1 mutual friend)Who knows how much the doctor was playing on Facebook during that hour? It ticks me off and I think it is very unprofessional. Would you say something to the doctor if it were you?

I would ask the doctor about it and then, if the doctor didn't have a pretty good excuse, I'd find another doctor. You and your child deserve better.

I prefer not to mention any names. I'm sure he or she knows who they are. I just wanted to hear if anyone else would be upset and what they would have done about it.

Please think about this.
You did not post your name, so would it be proper for you to put the doctor's name out there?

At this time, without names posted, it is a private issue.
You can tell us all about the details and ask what we think you should do. Otherwise....
It should be a discussion between you and your doctor.

If you post the doctor's name please post your name.
It's just the stand up thing to do.
It shows you're not afraid to tackle this matter head on.
With honesty and truth.

Ok.... If it was me and it bothered me that much I would confront the doctor. Weather you do it in private or in the open that's your choice. Best wishes!!!

What would I do? I'd tell you that I believe you're writing a piece of fiction and trying to stir up trouble. I'd also tell you that if a doctor really is dumb enough to allow patients access to his Facebook page, he's asking for trouble.

Cindy, if u r familiar with Facebook, and u reread the original post here, it says she could see the posts through a mutual friend. The poster didn't actually have access to docs page, but could see time stamps through the friends page. If it were me, and I seen this after waiting, HECK YA I'd say something. Not by posting docs name here, I think "what would you do" did a very good job, just gathering thoughts from an openly opinionated group. Call the doc, privately, and let them know you would really appreciate more prompt service, n gently mention that you know that Facebook was the reason for the delay. Would doc let employees post on the clock? I bet not. On top of the fact that if the patient was receiving services through a transportation company like comforting angels (skil) or the sort, and on government assistance, that's wasting our tax money for Medicaid hours, we could go on and on and on!

Out of the eye doctors in town, I'm sure we all can imagine which one it was.

If your story is factual that this doctor was playing on thier computer while while you were waiting in her office for that amount of time it would seem like a no brainer that you would seek better service with someone else. Why you need to ask opinions on topix is another waste of time and energy. With the high cost of any type of health care that providers charge for just an office visit you should expect better service. To me, my time is also valuable so if a doctor would be that inconsiderate to me I would end that at once and find someone else.

I dont think i have ever waited that long when i went to an < http://www.retinacenterspc.com ">eye doctors office. They are usually pretty fast and get you in and out. its the dentist and normal hospitals that always give me the hard time.

That was really unprofessional. My eye doctor at Killeen Vision Source is very responsible and dedicated.

I have been thinking about going in to see an eye doctor. My vision isn't terrible but it seems to be getting worse. I want to get an eye exam so I can figure out what exactly it is that I need to improve my vision.

If unhappy with the service, tell the doctor about it and he either will or will not change his behavior. The other option is to find a new doctor...or do both. Accountability is a great thing if it is done with good intentions and done the right way.

I think I need to see the eye doctor because I can't see things from a distance. Usually letter on signs or in the classroom are blurred. Last time I went to the eye doctor they said I was fine. But I really think I need glasses or something to help me.

I have been seeing spots a lot lately. I haven't been sleeping well and I am afraid that it is affecting my vision. Do I need a general practice referral to the optometrist?

You shouldn't need a referral. Check with your insurance carrier, though, because they are the ones who will determine if your visit will be covered without a referral.
Not to split hairs, but I would recommend an Opthamologist, rather than an Optometrist. There's a big difference. The Opthamologist is a medical doctor.

an optometrist can get you an appointment with an ophthalmologist much faster than you can get on your own, so you might want to find out about that.

I had a that had to meet with his eye doctor every six months for two years. He told me it was a very interesting meeting every time because they were checking to see if his vision was getting worse. I guess they discovered a hole in his retina and were wanting to keep an eye on it to make sure it wasn't getting worse. He said it was really cool when they would look into his eyes because he could also see what it looked like to see his retina.
