As with every other residence in Montgomery County, the property taxes are probably outrageously high.

You might check sekmls.com for a photo tour and info. Many Indy homes are listed there.

I DID look it up there were 4 out side pictures. I wanted to find someone who really knows something about the house. If you can't be helpful keep your mouth shut. Thank you.

I was in it a few times in the early 80's. As I remember it was a really unique (one of a kind) custom home.

My wife and I checked with a realtor a couple weeks ago and were told it had a contract on it.

Taxes are way way toooooo high in this area.. I used to own one down the street.. had to carry flood ins. on it even though I was on the flood line. This area used to be a nice quite place to live. But I noticed it's running down. All the old timers who kept up this area are gone and the new ones moving in this area it won't take long for it to look like south 17th!!
I pray it will get back up to the standards when I used to live in this area!!

Haven't you noticed most of the houses in Independence are not being kept up? A lot of slum land lords, high taxes and people just don't give a sh-- any more. With such poor management of the city, there is no where but down.

Inside must be in lots of disrepair. 3200+ sq ft 5 BR home, with 16K ft lot and a pool, for $60K...a steal depending on cost of restoration.

I had the unfortunate experience of being in this home several years ago, there was mold growing on walls. I wouldnt take the house if they gave it to me, and believe it is a health hazard.
Also sad how Ms. Halsey went down with her home. Has she passed away?

Thank you for the information. I didn't want to waste my time or the Realtors time if it was really bad. Thanks everyone for the CONSTRUCTIVE comments. Its appreciated. And no I do not know if she has passed away. There are two cars in the drive way and they look like they have been sitting for quite sometime.

It is listed as active (for sale) today in MLS at $60,000, so I think it's still for sale. I also think the sales price will be much less, and it could be a good buy if the purchaser could afford the repairs to include new roof, wiring, ac & heat, plumbing, drywall replacement & the necessary finish out. It would be a beautiful home when done with 3300 sq ft and the lot more than a third of an acre.

The lack of upkeep and needed repairs for this house are typical of many vacant houses in Independence. Many prospective purchasers lack the expertise and/or finances to complete the rehab; thus they remain vacant a deteriorate further. I would have hated living next door to this house as it deteriorated to its current condition. Unless the city steps up its code enforcement houses, buildings and neighborhoods are only going to get worse.

I live in the area and its a great area to live in. A few houses need some work on them but thats expected. The taxes are not to bad, ours actually went down a few 100 this year. As for the house we are talking about people were living in it last year. Was such a pretty home at one time.
