Enquiring minds wanna know when it became legal to drive at high rates of speed for deputies when they have no lights or sirens on! This is the second time it has happened to me. One blew by me on the way to coffeyville on the back road by dearing headed to a funeral home to escort. Almost caused an accident. Then the other tonight on 10th street. I was way behind him after he passed me and he never slowed down or turned on his lights. I wanted to speed up and follow him or at least get his tag number but he was going way to fast!!!

I'm guessing this is normal behavior. My reason for saying that is because I live on south tenth. We see law enforcement vehicles speed past quite often without sirens or lights. Something really should be done before something bad happens-lord forbid.

Well for one,,,Bobby should be! Unless he wants some very bad karma to end up in his lap!! I've seen this too, and wonder why? At least run the lights so as to alert others on the road you're in a hurry!

Call the deputies boss, Sheriff Dierks, and let him know that his deputies are hazarding traffic in response to emergency calls they are making. At the least they should be displaying lights to warn other drivers of their approach so that the drivers can give right of way. If Dierks is smart he will find out who those deputies are and tell them that a NEW department policy is no response without at least lights if you are driving over the posted speed limit.

Somehow though, I doubt Dierks will do that. Don't hold your breath...

Sometime in the future, a deputy will slam into another driver while responding to an emergency call and then we will revisit the whole issue after the damage has been done.

Stop wasting your breath. If you haven't figured it
out by now you soon will, Montgomery County does whatever they friggin feel. They dont give a rats ass if it written to do so or not, Only In Montgomery County Kansas this can be done. because in a real city that shit wouldn't fly. So get use to them flying by you in traffic and picking and choosing what laws they feel like following for the day/shift.

If enough people complain about it to the sheriff and he feels his re-election chances are hurt by his deputies public driving actions, I would imagine that he would change department policies.

Complain to Dierks and also to your county commissioner. The county is liable for any damages, injuries ar deaths that their employees cause...

Whining about it on here doesn't do a thing...take your complaints to someone that can cause change...

I agree with you. I am only worried about what it's going to take to get it brought to someone's attention. An accident that may leave someone seriously injured or dead I suppose. If I have to follow traffic rules they should to. Even with lights and sirens they still should be aware of their surrounding. These fools had neither on and were just flying. If I did that I'd be sitting in jail for attempted assault with a deadly weapon and reckless driving. No ticket just locked up.

If anyone believes that Dierks and his gang will act responsibly then they are a fool. And the reason is he and his gang don't care. I know from personal experience they will lie, conceal evidence and fail to comply with a subpoena. Their mentality is what they can get away with is right. And all over a simple MVA. Slowly but surely over a period of time he will wear out his welcome with his actions and attitude. He and his gang have been reported to the KS AG's office, KS DOT and KS Insurance Corp. for assisting in fraud. So driving 90 and endangering others doesn't mean much to them.

Well, if Dierks won't do anything about it, then notify your county commissioner with any specific instances. As county employees, they are putting the county at risk with unsafe driving practices. It is okay for them to drive faster than the speed limit when responding to an emergency, but they shoud display warning lights when doing that so that other drivers may get out of their way safely...

...and the next time Dierks runs for sheriff, vote against him. If he asks for your vote, have the cojones to tell him that you won't be voting for him, because he can not or will not control his deputies unsafe driving habits.

Here is my 2 cents.... A couple of Saturdays ago I was driving on N Penn Ave just south of Oak St heading south. I admit I was speeding a bit. 40 in 35 Next thing I know I see a deputy driving like a bat out of hell. I thought uh oh he is gonna pull me over. I slow down a bit and he changes lanes and whizzes by me. I know for a fact he was not responding to a call. He went to the judicial center. Ok maybe he got a call for something at DOC. Yeah right...

They are always speeding on S. 10th and without lights or siren just to pull into the Nazarene Church parking lot to meet up with their buddies, I can see it from my house. It happens alot around midnight and the next time I will try to video tape it for "evidence". Be a good time for a homemade spike strip.

same thing happens over here on east main. sheriff cars traveling way beyond 30mph going TO the "station" without any lights on.

you should see how fast they travel out of town on a call, gotta be at least 70mph in 30mph zone - that cant be legal

I didn't vote for him and gave McCleary a $100 towards his run in the primary. Wrote in someone else in general. He knows I didn't vote vote for him when I confronted him after one of the debates. Have tried numerous times to ask Dierks to lunch to talk about the MVA and he won't respond. Haven't talked with a commissioner yet. Would you recommend one?
