City commissioners are just people off the streets who might not have a lot of knowledge about running a city. The city manager is supposed to give the commissioners information, advice, etc. that will help them make good choices for the city and for us.

Micky Webb is an expert at sometimes making things look the way he wants everyone to see them. Go to a commission meeting and you will find times when commissioners have to look to him for guidance or for help in answering questions they don't know the answer to (if they decide they're going to answer a question). For this reason, the city manager has a lot of power and knowledge that he can use to "manipulate" commissioners' views and decisions.

The answer to this would be to elect at least two commissioners with some prior knowledge about the city's business. When Webb gave them some guidance, they could use their prior knowledge to question him and make a decision based on what they already know, what he is telling them, and what is best for us.

Four commissioner candidates already have some insight into matters relating to the city: Chappuie, White, Stichman, and Caflisch. White has shown where he stands and Chappuie might be more than willing to carry Micky's water bucket. We might be stuck with more of the same if we elect those two.

The only two candidates left that may have enough prior knowledge to represent US instead of Micky are Stichman and Caflisch. If you think Ned is only running to get back at Webb, you need to put that out of your mind. He has a great understanding of how the city SHOULD and COULD operate efficiently and effectively, and he would work FOR US. If you're still upset with him because he sued the city, you need to put that behind you if you don't want more of the same bad behavior, poor decison making, and endless spending sprees at City Hall.

Caflisch has a great deal of knowledge about ADA and other matters which may save us money in the long-run. We may actually be able to get all the ADA work done the first time instead of paying expensive consultants twice for doing the same job (because they didn't do it right the first time).

Ultimately, your vote is your decision, but this election is crucial for the City of Independence. We have the opportunity to elect people with some solid understanding of things related to city government, so we should seize that opportunity and take back control of our city.

Honestly if you want to help why not go door to door and let people know, even in your own neighborhood. People who want change need to get up and do something and not depend on someone else. I am not beating you up just making a sugestion.

That is a good idea! Plan on doing social media and calling and texting my friends to remind them to vote! I don't even feel beat-up. A close friend says it is a disaster at City Hall and I am doing it for them!

If we had a honerable city manager we could count on him to give whoever we elected advise (both the good and bad about things.)Since we have Micky Webb hes probably not going to tell the commission everything they need to know.we need to vote on people that can outthink him.If we get two new people on the commission they should give him a year to straighten up and if he doesn't give him his walking papers. We deserve more than weve been getting but the commissioners won't wake up and smell the coffee and do whats right by us.how much are we paying Micky anyways?

Two ways to vote in the PRIMARY:
1. Vote now through noon on Monday, February 25th
at Montgomery County Clerk's Office in Court
House (if you can make it there).
2. Vote on Tuesday at your designated polling
place.

You CANNOT vote in Tuesday's primary if you have not registered to vote. If you want to vote in the general election in April, you may register now at the Montgomery County Clerk's Office or Independence City Clerk's Office. If you are conducting other business at the Kansas Driver Examination Office, you can also register to vote there. If you are not conducting other business at that office, you cannot register to vote there, but you can obtain a voter registration form to submit to the County Clerk's Office.

LET'S DO WHAT IT TAKES TO CAST OUR VOTES!!

Commonsense rules make you keen to do things in the most organized, efficient and practical way you can manage. It's a good day for making serious decisions, especially if you can discuss them first with people whose opinions you respect. But make sure you've got all the facts before making up your mind.
