I just listened to the press conference that stated that Kelsey Stelting's abduction was a hoax. I cannot believe that someone that appeared to be so head strong to the public would pull something like that. I think she needs to come forth to the media with big apologies and do major community service to help mend the ends. Also did she not think of her family, friends and money spent during those hours to help find her. The question is where was she and what exactly was she doing? How did she get to southwest of Independence if she was all alone in this? My question to her: What exactly did she get out of this? Nothing but embarrassment and shame for her family. I would send her to a juvenile placement facility if this was my child!

I believe that Kelsey Stelting ruined alot of things in life by doing this! If an actual child now in this area does get abducted again FOR REAL, the surrounding communities will most likely not be as quick to help out because they will revert back to the stupid act that this Independence girl did. It's really disgusting to think she would do this to her family and friends. I would make her go public and apologize. Nothing positive was accomplished from this act!

yes, i believe she just made a big mistake. I am a 16 year old girl who knew her. Now i believe that she is going to look like a big idiot in public. I knew all alone it was a hoax. Why couldnt you turn around and see who it is? Why would you do something like this? She just thought she would be cool to see all the media around her house. She made the biggest mistake of her life.

I agree with your assessment. She should be punished and made to pay back the money that was used with 20 FBI/KBI agents involved in the case. She might be a bright student at school but she is one stupid thinker.

I hope she gets the help that she needs. Being "bright" and emotionally stable are two separate things. I would have to hope that she felt alot of pain and hurt to overlook the impact that her actions caused. Teenagers can have a high level of emotion, but not the maturity to deal with issues in the right way.

I think if she ever wants to have a life again, she would move far from Kansas. She has most likely lost all of the trust of her classmates, and friends in Independence and I hope she's sorry.

Yes, I would hope that she does lose some friends after all of this! There were so many kids out, hanging flyers and stuff....and she just did this for attention I truly think. She wanted the media and the hype for whatever reason(sick reasoning) She needs to be held accountable for this!

I'm sure Kelsey is more then sorry for what she has done, I'm sure she now relizes the problems that were created and problems that could be forthgoing if an abduction would really happen,,I do not condone what she did but I feel sorry for her for what she has had to go through. As human beings that we are we sometimes forget and don't think about the actions that we do,I am very asure that by now Kelsey relizes this. We maybe need to be aware of maybe there was something in her life that for some unknown reason, had drove her to do this.Lets let Kelsey get along with her life& stop this witch hunt.

What she has had to go through? Surely you jest. What price has she had to pay for her crime? Seriously. None.

She went on with her life as though nothing at all happened. She was involved in all school, extra-curricular, and social activities.

There was no arrest, no trial, no jail time. She did not have to pay restitution. What did poor Kelsey suffer?

Give me a break.

I went to school with her. Believe it or not after the whole thing happened and she came back to school everyone embraced her and acted like it never happened. If anyone opened their mouth and said anything about it they were threatened. It was BS how it all ended.

Threatened? By whom? Her? Her mother? School officials?

And what kind of threat?

I agree, that's some serious BS. And another crime.

I found it appalling that all of this got swept under the carpet in the first place. "Poor little Kelsey" my ass. That was no childish prank. That was a crime.

I don't care WHY she did it. There's been plenty of speculation about that. The bottom line - it was a crime. Pretty little child should have been charged, same as if she'd been a homely little no-good loser.

Now we learn there were THREATS following the magical disappearance of the initial crime for the slightest mention of it? OMG!

I was told by my kid(whom graduated in 2008) that they were told by the principal that no jokes or any type of hazing could go on when she came back to school, I also heard other kids talking about how her hateful mother would treat them if they made a comment about it, so I ask why the hell is she still a teacher there, if this had been a poor unpopular kid the teasing and cruelty would be unbearable..guess somethings never change in good old Indy..all about who you are and how much money you have...

I see this girl's mother from time to time and it STILL curls my toes. I'll never understand why charges were not filed.

Indepenndence high and mighty and a whole bunch of money. Makes Independence what it is... If that had been a poor set of parents you can bet they would have still been paying it off. Eddy Wallick was same way, basically got away with murder.
