who are these people? all kids who dont pass a random urine test must go to 4 county mental health,, hey there is more money for 4 county,, where is it going to come from? you, and the kansas department of transportation ( 4 counties main squeeze for money)and medicaid, etc,, they got their new school bond passed,, now they want MORE MORE MORE,, jim kelley the great wizard of oz fundraiser thinks even the staff should be tested, heck lets all get tested, lets all go down to the hospital and all be tested once a week,, they need more money,, if my kid was still in school i would not allow him to be in ANY extracurricular activity just for spite,, heck give em the keys to your car, let em see if it passes inspection too,,, grumble gripe moan,, who are these people??

The Reporter did not mention whether or not the private schools that have students involved in 446 activities will be required to have their kids comply. Wonder if they will or withdraw?

no handful of board members should be able to pass this kind of intrusive testing. if they want to have a city wide vote, that is another thing. how does charles barker have the right to say "everyone should be tested but there may be some contractual issues". these czars really need to find something worthwhile to do with their time. who thought this up? who thought up these rules about the issue ? " if the first test comes up dirty, then the student must attend 4 county counseling ( a paid driver from 4 county picks them up takes em there i am sure), now why is it only students who are in extracurricular activities? what is that all about? this would be like, if you are working at a job and they see you are doing well, enjoying it, having fun, then well, we gonna test you to see if you are on drugs.. i am not getting it,, someone tell me who is making up these rules.

I think the school board members and school administrators should also be required to pass random drug tests.

why is this even a consideration? they will come into your house next,, it matters not that you are innocent or guilty. if you agree to this you are just forfeiting more of your freedom, you are in the land of the fee and the home of the slave. it is in the guise of the welfare of the community, doing what is best for the majority, solving problems before they get big. sure these are good ideas, but the end does NOT justify the means. i cannot believe anyone would even consider this, even if it did not cost a dime. WHO WILL PAY FOR THIS???

this has to be coming from above the heads of these local yokels,, when they were pushing the swine flu stuff, it came from somewhere above them,, these country bumpkins can barely put together a decent accurate speed dial message to parents during the school year concerning topics of interest. there is no way they came up with this idea on their own. i am glad my son has already graduated or i would be at the next board meeting in a new york minute,, and i still havent ruled it out,,

It was actually introduced to the board as a proposal from the First Leadership group - a group of IHS students.

ok, i stand corrected, however, did the first leadership group include, along with their fine civic minded quest for decency and compassion for the wayward among them, a budget that would pay for this? and why are they targeting those in extracurricular activities? they dont want to be in a club or on a sports team along with drug offenders? i mean, mitch shaw must have some idea of the cost of this., but i dont think these leaders really give a hot damn about the cost. let someone else pay for it. they arent going to.. i am sure jim kelly will come up with a car wash and a fundraiser to get it started.

Let's face. Drug addiction is not that big a deal. Why fight it. It costs money. It's not really a problem anyway. Just another way to spend some money. It would be better if we just wait until someone commits a crime. We won't incarcerate them though because that costs money too. Everyone wants to spend my money. What the hell is going on. If my kids were still in school and tested positive, I wouldn't be concerned about my kids drug use. I would just think about the fraction of a cent that it cost to test him. I am going out of my mind. Oh wait I am already crazy. Nothing is important enough anymore to spend my tax dollars on. Why do I even have to pay taxes? Why are they picking on me.

fraction of a cent? have you had a decent job lately? everyone tests you. but the company is paying for it. more education is a good answer. i havent heard anything about that. because they dont know what to do about it. so, we will just spend money we dont have to play whack the mole, if it rears its ugly head we just throw money at it.how do you think counseling is going to help? 4 county is going to help? wake up you moron.

I damned well felt it was a prison from kindergarten through 12th grade; those people who parrot, "School is the best time of your life" and clueless. I hated school, I couldn't wait to be out in the world and I was right.

P.S. I'm nearly 60 years old, so don't tell me I'll change my mind when I've been out in the world a few years longer.

You can buy a home urine test kit. It's not up to the state to raise your kids. If you didn't notice the changes in your kid what makes you think a teacher would?

Oh this is a brilliant idea, let's test these kids, and then when we find marijuana in there system that could have been there from 30 days before, let's not let them play so they have nothing better to do than go smoke some more! Ya'll are geniuses!

It's no wonder so many kids are on drugs ... most of you people enable them, defend them, encourage them ... you did it, so why shouldn't they? Geesh, with parents like you druggies and alcoholics as role models, it's no wonder the problem is so bad.

Heaven forbid we do something to encourage kids not to use, or commend those who don't follow the crowd.
