2 years or 3 years?

Can't the reporter count, or am I reading it wrong? Friday's paper said the ICC president got two more years, but also said that his contract was extended to June 30, 2016. Isn't that THREE years? I like the president just fine, but what's the truth?

The paper got most of the story wrong. I talked with a board member. Dr. Dan's contract is a new contract. He had one year left on his old contract. The board voided his old contract, and replaced it with a new three-year contract. So he's here for three more years, not two. That's a very good thing. The college is improving steadily.

3 years, 2 years, it doesn't matter - the good people will always be in demand. Case in point: the board chair stated that Barwick had insisted that he be paid only for his PERFORMANCE and not simply guaranteed some big salary. Why did he INSIST on that? According to the board chair, it was because that's the way raises will be determined for the REST of the employees, and Barwick insisted that he shouldn't be treated any differently than anyone else! That's LEADERSHIP, and pay for performance is a responsible use of MY TAX MONEY. All too often, big organizations pay the CEO big salaries regardless of performance - its good to see a PUBLIC employee bucking the trend. Holding HIMSELF to the SAME standard as the rest of the employees is just outstanding.

Somewhere out there could be a city manager with the same good qualities as Dr. Barwick. Maybe when Mickey Webb's contract runs out we kind get that kind of person to run Indy. Its too bad the old commissioners stuck us with Micky for a whole other year.

I'm an ICC employee, for a pretty long while too, and I think what Dr. Dan has gotten done in just two years has been pretty outstanding. We've had too many "empty suit", "over-promise and under-deliver" types running the college for years. Dr. Dan just shows up and works, without any of the "me me me" crap that presidents pull. He does so many needed changes without making a big deal about it that I think people don't even remember what the place used to be like. It's a lot better now.

You are so very right on so many points....now if we can just keep Hoite from putting his nose in places it has no business and if he'll just leave Dr. Dan alone.
