We live behind jeff co imperial college an were having a birthday BBQ and everyone was freaking out - only one of our neighbors was outside too... Was weird cause it would start and stop so suddenly!

What was that noise last night. Around 2:30 am my wife and I woke up to what sounded like machine gun fire. It seemed to be coming from about a mile away from Telegraph and 67. It was companies with sounds of explosions.

Sounded like a low flying jet followed by rapid gun fire. I looked outside and waited for an explosion to follow, but after a few minutes it stopped.

I heard the sound you are refering to, I think it was a train going down the tracks along 55 that had either a really bad bearing on a wheel or the wheel itself was stuck and being drug along the tracks. When I was a kid, I saw a wheel that wasn't turning on a train car and it made one hell of a noise and left a rooster tail of sparks 30 feet high behind it.

Has anyone noticed constant low frequency humming sound in Antonia homes? It sounds like a generator of some kind. Is this coming from the nearby quarry?
I live down 61-67 between Hwy M and Imperial main and have been hearing the same sound for several nights now

I'm in the Festus area and around 11 last night I heard a hum outside. It went up and down. I don't know what it was. I got weirded out so I turned my fan on to drown it out.

I hear the sound. It is 2:36 am. November 10, 2013, in South County, MO. I have heard it before, and it is not the highway. Different frequency. Sounds as though it is pulsating, like a tornado siren gets a little softer when it isn't pointed directly at you. That is the only way to describe it. It isn't my furnace or fridge. It isn't a transformer. It isn't a train. Just a low frequency that pulsates. I can't sleep, even though I'm tired. revmichellehopkins on youtube has described this, too. She has even shown a website that shows radar for her area that captures this. I cannot find one for our area that shows this.

I live over by the Animal shelter and I hear it ALL THE TIME. Could it be fracking over by the quarry? My house shakes a lot which scares me since I am on top of a hill. I thought it was I55 but I don't think it is; that's another type of sound. It's like a semi just sitting idle somewhere, rumbling. On Sundays it seems to stop but the rest of the week, even at night it keeps up. I've even wondered if we have an underground city over by the caves in Crystal City that is hush-hush. a DUMB: deep underground military base. Maybe they are digging and digging and digging.... it's really weird that a lot of people heard this over a wide range. Must be underground. Can't be just one quarry.

I'm sitting in my living room and can hear it right now. It started up again after being absent for many months. It is not a natural sound. Sounds like a diesel engine idling outside but it gets quite loud at times. It is louder in certain rooms of our two story house. My wife can't here it at all.

Yes! that's exactly what it sounds like. Sometimes I think there is someone in the driveway and I get up to look but there's never anything there. I even thought, maybe a neighbor is constructing a bunker underground somewhere. It's really annoying.

My husband and I have been hearing this at our home in south St. Louis for about 2 years or so now. Google "the hum". This is going on all over the world. We too, thought it was something local, until I Googled it. We also have a weekend place down in St. Francois county, in the Arcadia Valley, and we hear it there too.

Ok stumbled upon this site while googling low feq hum. Crazy, I live off Wedde between Moss Hollow and OLF. Have heard the sound before but tonight it so strong. Almost makes me nauseous. It does sound simliar to a train in the distance but I am thinking it is the quarry. Noise pollution for sure!!

Any chance that it could be a barge?

The low sound is Obama spewing Democrat propaganda. Most people can't hear him anymore because they've tuned him out, fed up with his lies. You're hearing the sound because you haven't faced the truth yet.
Once you do, the sound will stop.
