Former Festus Mayor Jack King now leads a church

Yes probably a Good Thing God Called him away as a little time after 911 a shipment of Nuclear materials from Westinghouse down your way ended up here in the GTA Greater Toronto area of Ontario & sat Unguarded for a Summer until a worker in the Nuclear Waste Incinerator plant noticed the tubes contained some radioactive pellets that maybe considered Weapons Grade Plutonium unless someone from Canada can prove otherwise, of which Nobody has any Comment up here & the White House NRC people levied a fine for the Screw up www.nukefreepeel.org

---

From a distance, the old Westinghouse plant is a nondescript complex of buildings, the kind of place that might make light bulbs or ceiling fans.

Drive a little closer and yellow signs come into view: "Caution: Nuclear Material."

A few years ago, officials with Westinghouse Electric Co. had predicted that the plant,

Destruction of defunct atomic-powered aircraft & spacecraft factory materials end up in Canada Northwest of Toronto Greater Toronto Area GTA

A web of lawsuits is the only thing that keeps a defunct Westinghouse factory standing in this rural eastern Missouri town area of Festus & Hematite

Reports shared with Stephen Dion, then Canada's Federal Environment & the then Minister of Defence show the materials end up in Brampton Ontario at a Nuclear Waste Incinerator facility wanting to expand, that was originally approved with a recommendation by Peel Region Council a few Years ago for No Public Meetings in Concert with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment

a Metroland reporter at a televised Rogers Cable TV meeting was given the information before the last Provincial & Municipal elections but Nothing Yet ?

The plant used to make nuclear fuel rods and has been linked to chemical contamination in nearby well water, prompting anxiety among residents and triggering the lawsuits.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Sunday that Westinghouse Electric Co. had predicted the plant, which has been idle since 2001, would be razed in 2005 or 2006. Now, it appears the buildings won't be torn down and the site completely cleaned up until next year at the earliest.

For years, residents in this town have known something was wrong with the plant.

"When I would shower, my eyes would burn," said Marcus Shepherd.

In 2002, Shepherd, his wife and four children moved into a home a few thousand feet from the plant. "We figured, it's a new house, it's on a well, we'll get it checked," he said.

Tests found chemical contaminants, which were used as cleaning agents at the plant in the 1950s and 1960s, in the Shepherds' well and in the wells of several nearby homes.

The chemicals, trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene, have been linked to cancer and other health problems...
